I am selling my 1985 190e euro-spec 2.3L Cosworth. This is the higher performance version of the 2.3 Cosworth that was introduced to the us (185hp instead of the 167hp in the US with higher redline). This is actually the Japanese market car that shares the same specifications as the european one. There are numerous "upgrades" that the european/japanese specification has, that the US version did not. These include:
-Factory oil cooler
-Single piece headlights
-Vacuum operated headlight dip switches
-Power adjustable front seats with heater
-factory lap timer that still works (very rare)
-rear sports seats
-No 3rd brake light
-Smaller driver's side mirror
Also standard to both the US and EU 190e 2.3l Cosworths, the car has a Getrag dog leg 5 speed transmission (first gear is down and to the left) and was factory equipped with a rear LSD.
The car has a fair amount of tasteful mods which include:
-C55 AMG Front brake calipers with cross drilled rotors
-H&R front suspension and KYB shocks (Stock Mercedes self leveling rear suspension). Despite the aggressive lowering, the car has a very plush ride with plenty of ground clearance
-"Personal" branded aftermarket steering wheel and hub (with working horn)
-painted to match rear calipers with cross drilled rotors
-painted front valence and headlight shrouds with flat black front grill, rain channels and window trim
-debadged trunk, smoked clear turn signals, black emblems
-Aftermarket radio, amplifier and rear speakers (no subwoofer)
There are probably a few more options that the European/Japanese spec 190e has over the US versions that I am missing. Many consider this car the close competitor to the e30 BMW M3. The 190e 2.3 16v Cosworth is considered a much rarer and incredibly underpriced car today.
Here is some reading material that any buyer should review to appreciate how rare and amazing this car is:

Exterior: 7.5/10
The car has never been in an accident. The car has no rust. The car was repainted under the care of its previous owner. There are imperfections on some of the pannels. The paint is otherwise washed and waxed RELIGIOUSLY. I personally have a notoriously rigorous detailing schedule. The body is in excellent shape, there is one ding on the driver's side door approximtely 2 inches long. It is not a gash, the paint is not damaged. It would be a good candidate for paintless dent removal. The impact strip on the front bumper (the black portion) has a little bit of spider-web cracking, I assume someone backed into the previous owner. The plastic is not scratched or gashed, it is very minor. All of the pannels fit very well, there are no excess gaps or misaligned pannels. All things considered (including the car's age), the body is pretty close to pristine.
When claying the car, I noticed that the paint along the driver's side of the hood and a small portion of the driver's side hood is starting to show small bubbles, almost like goose bumps. I believe that this is an adhesion problem. Based on what the paint looks like and the location of these bumps (along horizontal pannels and not near edges) It is definitely not rust. I will take pictures for you. There are a small number of rock chips on the painted front facia that surrounds the grill, the grill itself should receive another pass of black paint. You can see the paint on the grill faded and chipped, the grill itself is in excellent shape. I could probably cound the number of rock chips across the front of the car. It would probably be less than 12. The paint behind the tires are in excellent shape as well (no rock chips or scratches.)
The paint is otherwise smooth as glass with no fading or swirling and no scratches or blemishes other than what I had mentioned above. I am extremely meticulous when it comes to detailing the paint. If you were curious, I clay, used the porter cable and griots polish, Klasse All-in-one, 2 coats of Klasse Sealant Glaze (waiting 24 hours between coats) and 2 coats of Collinite 476s (waiting between coats).
The shop that repainted the car failed to add enough "Flex" in the paint before spraying it. The paint is cracked here, and I hate looking at it. It may not be obvious in the picture, but please zoom into it and you'll see the extent of the cracks.
Interior: 8/10
Interior upholstry is in excellent shape, no rips or tears in the leather. The passenger and rear seats are in excellent condition. The car has seen very very few passengers. The sun roof works without any issues and does not leak. The header is not stained or sagging. The driver's seat has normal signs of wear and tear but the bolsters and side supports are in excellent condition for its age. The dashboard is cracked from the sun/heat. I wish the previous owner kept a towel over the dash, but it is what it is. I don't know what the cost to replace the dashboard is. I do believe that the standard 190e dashboards will fit and are a dime a dozen.
Mechanical: 9/10
Professionally rebuilt motor 1.5 years ago and approximately 4,000 miles ago by a classic mercedes specialty shop. New pistons, rings, timing chain and other misc. parts. With all reciepts (in the photos). If you are serious about this car, I am more than happy to put you in touch with the owner of the shop. Recently replaced clutch and serviced transmission by the previous owner (3+ years ago, I do not have the reciepts), clutch does not slip and the gearbox does not grind and shifts very smoothly. Recently serviced. Motor oil, transmission oil, differential fluid and spark plugs (with the proper non-resistive type). The rebuilt motor was properly broken in and does not burn any oil, does not smoke and does not overheat. The motor does not show any signs of ever being overheated in the past, the car does not burn coolant and the fan and fan clutch work without problems. The car does not leak any oil, the suspension is in excellent shape. The front shocks were replaced with KYB yellow shocks 3+ years ago and are in excellent shape. The rear shocks are still using Mercedes' Self Leveling Suspension (SLS) which is also in excellent shape. You can drive this home even if you live long distance.
Other considerations:
- There is no Air Conditioning - the AC was removed by a previous owner. The entire compressor was removed along with the lines and condensor. The AC was removed carefully and was probably considered a performance modification. I do not have the original parts. the heat works without any issues.
- The ABS light turns on once you start moving. The light will not come on when you first start the car. The light resets when you turn off the car. ABS light is on because the caliper swap did not include the ABS sensors and hardware (typically a magnetic sensor and a large crown/castle ring for the axle). The OEM ABS wiring harness is still in tact and zip tied against the body. Although the ABS dash light is on but the brakes work extremely well. This car will have no problems passing inspection because the light resets when the car is restarted.
I am located on Long Island in NY. The car is garaged all the time and washed frequently and has been driven seldom. The car performs beautifully and has been incredibly reliable. After the rebuild, I was commuting with it 140mi round trip 5 days a week between March and May. I am available to show the car weeknights after 8 and anytime on the weekends. I have the clean title on hand. I am most responsive via email. I am negotiable, but please do not bother doing this over the phone or via email. Cash in hand will take the car, I can work with you for delivery or storage if needed. Definitely be serious and test drive the car, bring a mechanic if you'd like, I am even open to taking the car to a mechanic of your choice at your expense.
Asking $6,000. I am also interested in trades for a more modern (past 10 years) 4 door sports sedan or a modern pickup truck - MUST BE MANUAL TRANSMISSION.

Im the 3rd owner The 2nd owner is a German car mechanic, who rebuilt the engine 18k miles ago, cleaned up the engine bay and relocated the battery to the trunk. Also lower the compression, replaced all the lines, some are steel braided lines. Car was equipped with a small low pressure Turbo charger, bigger Green top fuel injectors, Custom intercooler piping which is stronger the bought.
The Exhaust was also custom made So it looks and sounds stock but really 2.5 inch.
The car as originally Forest green then was painted alpine white so it always looks clean.
The interior came from a GTI which are more comfortable then Golf seats which were tan.
I have a folder full of receipt that was giving to me when I bought the car. The car is reliable I drive it every day and its a blast to drive. Oil is changed every 3k full synthetic, Fuel filter, spark plugs was changed 2k ago.

Beautiful car. On the pictures, the driver's side door looks a little misaligned? It probably is just an optical illusion, but just wanted to check.
Interested in a Clean Toyota 4runner in trade? 1997.

Pappas, I'm interested in the trade so I PM'd you.
You're right though, in the picture you're referencing, one of the clips holding the OEM body kit door pannel was broken. The clip has since then been replaced and The door lines up very wellso everything looks peachy now, heh.
Good eye and thanks for informing other potential buyers!![]()

1st ≠ Reverse is a bit annoying to get used to especially while being stuck in traffic, lol.
Glad to know you made it home safe though!
