I am an ASE certified mechanic with over seven years experience in the import auto repair industry mostly working on Nissan/Infiniti and VW/Audi models. I have a fully equipped shop with all required tools and equipment including VAGCOM. Over the years I have done some pretty cool projects for myself but never really shared them. Just wanted to have a place to document my personal projects going on in the shop.

Had a 1990 300ZX in the shop last week. The previous owner noticed low oil pressure readings and shortly after the motor seized and shot a few connecting rod bearings out the sides of the oil pan!! Found a used engine in Philadelphia and got it back up and running !!

After further inspection it became evident the clutch was on its way out so I went ahead and replaced that too!!

I also discovered that the master cylinder was leaking brake fluid down the fire wall and onto the drivers side frame rail where it was starting to eat away at it. So I went ahead and took down the rust to bear metal with some scotch-brite pads on the section of rail, etch primed it and then sprayed it with under coat. Of course I replaced that faulty master cylinder as well!!

Have a couple 1.8T's in the shop today.

First is a 2004 GTI with an APR K04 kit and EIP front mount intercooler. Previous owner was driving when the timing belt slipped and left him stranded. After removing the head I found 12 bent valves. Luckily it caused minimal damage to the pistons just light surface scratches. Picked up a used head that just needs the cams swapped over. Ordered a new timing belt kit with water bump and a completed head gasket kit. Get this one back on the street real soon!

Second is a 2001 Golf 1.8T with an APR Stage 1 chip. Went and towed this one back to the shop from Albany NY. Previous owner complained of loss of power and an intermittent oil light coming on. After dropping the oil pan I discovered that a previous mechanic resealed the oil pan but when doing so he/she used way too much RTV. The bead of silicone dripped into the pan and eventually clogged up the screen on the oil pick up tube. Luckily there were no signs of engine sludge, crank play or worn bearings. I also removed the valve cover and was happy to find no sludge or worn cam lobes. I ordered a new pick up tube, fresh oil and a filter and this one should be running like a champ again!

Been a while since Ive updated this thread so here's what you missed...

My car was featured in the HPA/Linden VW booth at Waterfest 18 in NJ.

Finshed the Indigo Blue Golf 1.8T and Silverstone Gray GTI from my previous posts:

      GTI initial start up:

      All finished up:

      Golf all finished up:

Rebuilt a K03 Turbo for a 1.8T with bad seals:

Picked up a wrecked 2001 Jetta VR6 and swapped it into a 99.5 Jetta 2.0L shell. For this particular swap the body harness in a 99.5 is different from anything 2000+ MK4 so you have to swap it over. This takes about an extra days worth of work but in the end you have a complete running functioning vehicle.

      Wrecked car:

      Removing engine from wrecked car:

      Donar car:

Removing body harness from wrecked car:

Installing body harness into donar car:

      Finished product:

Picked up an 02.5 GTI VR6 that a tree fell on crushing the roof and ultimately totaling the vehicle. Picked up a 2001 GTI 1.8T shell and swapped over the engine and drive train from the VR6 car. Unlike the last swap there is no need to make any modifications to the body harness. The donor car was resprayed black magic pearl at one point in its life but over time showed its age and a minor dent over the passenger side headlamp on the hood and fender. Car is fully swapped and running just waiting to finish up the body work.

      Car damage by fallen tree:

Matt my body guy taking care of that dent:

Removing engine from tree damaged car:

      Engine installed in donor car:

Had a fellow vortex members 2013 CC 2.0T Manual in the shop for a Diesel Geek Stigma 6 Short Shift installed. What a beautiful car and kit. He was really happy with it.

      Car in question :

      OEM shift components removed:

      New setup installed:

This update is picture heavy! Build documentation of the MK4 Golf 1.8T I installed bags on with Accuair E-level Management, notched the passenger side frame rail and installed Euro Image Tuning Motor Mount Spacers.

      Slam Specialties SS5 Rear Bags:

Dorbritz Designs "D-Cups" Rear Air Bag Brackets:

Due to the wide design of the SS5 rear bags especially when fully aired out I had to mount the rear bags upside down and widen the brackets on the rear lower spring perch arms by using heat and a ball peen hammer. After doing so I primed and painted them black:

Used new rubber grommets on all air line holes:

Front Mason Tech/Bilstein Bag Over Strut Assemblies installed and steel braided lines ran:

Installing front air lines down the frame rail:

Installing front and rear Accuair E-Level Sensors:

Hole drilled into passenger side frame rail with 3" hole saw bit for notch:

Metal being fit to size using a piece of 3" steel pipe:

      All welded in:

      Primed and undercoated:

      Wiring during initial testing:

Wiring all done and cleaned up nice:

      Aired up:

      Aired out:

Installing Euro Image Tuning Motor Mount Spacers:

      ALL DONE!
