I got a new set of wheels on my mkiv and I'm going to need to run a spacer up front. Wheels are 18x8.5 et 35 with a 225/40/18. Question is, what size spacer? I'm thinking 8 or 10mm? Also Do I need to get different hubcentric rings?

Can you be more specific on why you're going to need to run a spacer? So far you haven't mentioned anything that would make it necessary. If you just want to make it look the way you like, then you have to answer your own question.

I'd suggest using the smallest necessary such as 3 or 5mm, depending on how serious the rubbing is. You really don't need more than 3 or 4mm clearance between the sidewall and suspension. I generally recommend avoiding the 8mm since most don't have a wheel centric lip so, if you need more than 5 I would skip to 10mm if possible.

id get a 3mm and be done with it

but if you want to bring the wheels flush to the fender get a 10mm spacer and longer lugs and get spacers that are hubcentric
