Pretty sure shoulder-fired rocket launchers can only be fired from W116 450 SEL 6.9.
That being said. I LOVE D2 S8, very understated and sweet cars.
In for more info.

(Yes, yes, yes... I know, I know, VadGTI is making stupid threads again).
2001 S8, 140k. Rebuilt trans 15k ago, timing belt/tensioner service 10k ago, with records.
All I know about S8s is this:
1. You get one if you need something fast, but you have to add nitrous;
2. Useful for whacking Peugeots and Citroens off the road;
3. Sunroof is big enough to allow ease of use of a shoulder-fired rocket launcher.
Also, where, pray tell, might one find a used and relatively cheap D2 S8 front bumper?
The actual vehicle:
Woman + parking curb = needs new bumper (I kid, ladies, I kid... Seriously, though...):

trans and timing belt are the scariest things. If the transmission was rebuilt recently i'd go for it![]()

As mentioned, transmission problems are common due to the faster shifting programming in the S8.
Also, any LCD screen (cluster or console) is probably going to have lots of dead pixels.
Most of the usual 4.2 problems apply.

Call me crazy but the fact that the for sale pictures were taken in the parking lot of the Santa Monica DMV just makes me uneasy. (imagines frustrated owner just trying to dump this vehicle)

Maybe he works there.
Found the craigslist post. Seller wants $6,500

There is nothing more you need to know. Actually I was just thinking about how I would love to own one of these just because of the movie.

Vad, buy it.
I mean, finance it.
Your monthly payments will be less than your maintenance costs.

Let's make this real Ronin-esque... Throwing a $6k E34 M5 into the mix:

The M5 would compliment the other cars well... I'd take the M5 simply because actually owning an S8 scares me. Objectively speaking, the M5 looks in better condition.

The M5 doesn't look f**ked up enough for your tastes, Vad.

Front bumper is super hard to find.
Transmission. Transmission. Transmission. I won't get another one unless the tranny has been recently replaced. (Check the paperwork to make sure it was actually done, and the info on it, what kind, rebuilt by whom, etc) -edit did not see you did thatBuy that ****.

the only thing that worries me is the oil every 10k miles
but then again, it is a good oil, and not in a "harsh environment" state
and the two biggest pains have already been taken care of, the t belt and the trans

I love the D2 S8. So much so that I set out to buy one last year, but I couldn't find one that had low enough miles or was in good enough condition. So I bought an RS6 instead.
Although I've never driven one, the S8 is supposedly a very nimble car for its size and is very well put together - fit and finish is supposed to be outstanding.![]()
