Thread: 99 passat running and starting issues

  1. 08-17-2012 05:15 PM #1
I have a 99 passat 1.8t that as I was driving down the road just lost all power with no warning. I got to side of the road I shut the car off and tried to restart it with no success. Called a local vw shop and they said sounds like a camshaft or crankshaft sensor, so replaced them both with no new success. Does anyone have an idea why it would lose all power and after replacing those parts and new plugs still no fire to turn it over. Any help would be appreciated to try and solve this ASAP.

Have you looked to see if the timing belt is intact? If its worn out, it can jump out of time so bad the car won't run.

My 99 was in a front end accident..the timing belt cover was crushed. For that instant the valve gear wasn't spinning, it made the timing belt jump 5 teeth out of position...car wouldn't start.

check for fuel pressure or skipped timing belt
