Hi all, and thank you for any help you provide! I've had my 95 2.0 jetta for a few years and the a/c has worked perfectly blowing ice cold air until about a month ago. It started by blowing cold when first started and then gradually getting warm, now its just warm. I borrowed a manifold gauge set and measured the high and low side. with the a/c off the low side read 350psi (gauge maxed) and the high side 150psi. When the a/c turned on the low side started fluxuating (would start at 58 and gradually go up to 75 then bounce back to 58), and the high side stayed at 160 ish. the fans are working and the compressor engages when the a/c is turned on. Everything seems normal. the only thing i noticed which may be normal is when draining the pressure from the high side of gauge some oily stuff came out.
pressures sound right, except teh static pressure seems high.
have you charged the system at all? put more freon in it? If you overcharged the freon doesnt work as its supposed to.
next thing i would check is to make sure your radiator fans are working, if they arent spinning with the AC button activated then your not drawing in cool air,,,your pressures will skyrocket and blow parts like mine did.
I did put a little freon in it about 6 months ago (wasnt thinking and had some left over from doing my wifes car). The a/c didnt change at that time, just this last month. Would letting some out help at all or is that even safe?
