Silver is "liquid sex?" That's like saying plain oatmeal is a "flavor sensation!!"
A hundred dollars on your hair, fifty on your nails, fifty on make-up, two hundred dollars for an outfit. You ladies spend four hundred dollars to bring home a thug that ain't worth ten cents!

$105,000.00 USD for a Boxster, yeah no thanks.

Loved these when the first photos came out, but when I finally saw one up close, the creases on the inside of the fenders by the hood & trunk looked a bit odd to me. I wish they would have left them smooth. But it's a small thing, I'll probably get used to it.

Standing over it, it reminded me of the Carrera GT...

I think a well executed silver paint can look "liquid" like. I've seen a few tungsten and silver colored BMW and Porsche, even an Aston that pulled it off very well..

Vanilla you say? I love vanilla bean!

Still haven't seen this gen Cayman in the flesh (are they out yet?)

That's what's goofy with Porsche. The base prices are in the right range, but then you can double the price of the car with options!

Which is a great thing. You can pretty much customize your car anyway you'd like and you;d be hard pressed to find an exact clone of your car.

That said, hardly anyone is going to order a 100K Boxster. The majority of these cars are going to be in the 65-75K range.

Just like my former 968. Base price was 39K, most expensive car ordered in the us was around 65K. Majority sold were in the 42-48K range.

It's kind of an oxymoron for them to call it "Individualized" when it's sitting on a dealer's showroom floor though.

"Sure, it's individualized....as long as you wanted these options"

Its not really goofy. You can do the same with BMW's in europe...customize them. Most of the highend manufacturers do this. Ferrari, Maserati, etc.

Building a car to exact spec isnt goofy imho. Its a great thing. If you have the money and want an individual car. The fact that Porsche allows you to do this is amazing. The Boxster could have been built to cost over 100K since its inception pretty much. But how many 100K Boxsters have you or anyone else seen in the states? I have yet to see any. And i've seen a lot of Porsche's over the years at swap meets, concours shows, track days, etc....including a 120K 928, and numerous other cars with Special Wishes/Exclusiv options and promo cars with tons of equipement that no one would ever order.

When Porsche ends its special wishes/exclusiv program...they will no longer be Porsche in my eyes. If i want a Pink Cayman R with green leather and pink stiching...i can order one. A big Thank You to Porsche for offering such things.

Well Sure. If a dealer is stupid enough to order a car with so many options just to put it on the showroom floor as it sits and collects dust for a year waiting for a buyer.

But the fact that i can walk into a Porsche store and build a car to spec from scratch is great. If i owned a Porsche store, i would never order such a car to put on my lot without a deposit. Would need to find a buyer who wants those exact options...and goodluck with that.

My boss picked up one of the first silver ones in the country a month or so back. It has the optional 20s, and I fully agree that it is bad as hell. Such an improvement over the last generation hairdresser mobile

Definitely stunning. A somewhat closeby Porsche dealer has pictures of a blue 2013 on the ground at their dealer. It's definitely as good looking in real world photos as in the press and magazine ones.

Very much agree with that. Didn't mean to make it sound like it was a bad thing to have the individualization option.

Where'd you get that price from!

Direct conversions aren't too accurate. Did you remember to take off the 19% VAT?

The price is pretty much on par with what it would ost in he US if you take off the tax. That being said, ~$87,0000 is a bit much for a Boxster.

One of the 981s I saw was silver with a red leather interior & perforated seats. I agree, the color was amazing.

One thing my OCD doesn't like about the new Boxster is the row of switch blanks on the center console.

All Porsche needs to do is put the 2.0 TSI engine in the Boxster and reduce the price. Would be totally bitchn'.

Thing is, we know it's good for 300bhp on stock internals, too and you don't even need a turbo the size of a cheese wheel

Seen 2 new Boxsters now. A beautiful blue one today and one in that light brown (Porsche site says it's cognac brown metallic) last week. For the first time I like the Boxster more than the 911. It's a beautiful design.

Ouch. Porsches have never been cheap, but that's pretty high for what has been their "entry" level car...

For that I'd go with a base 911 or 911 S. As Jeremy has said, you only buy the Boxster because you can't afford the 911.

That said, I wouldn't mind an older model Boxster S to toss around from time to time.

To anybody who has driven them both this statement exists only because of the British fascination with sarcastic derision. The statement has never been true, and in this generation the Boxster is increasingly a distinct choice.

    Porsche buying 101:

Are Porsches expensive? Yes, they are.

Is it possible make them more expensive by adding lots of options? Yes, it is.

Is it necessary to have a leather dash & vent slats, etc.? No, it is not. (But damn, it looks so good).

Is it possible to still have a very nice Porsche with only a few options? Yes, it is.

Are the Boxster & Cayman less expensive than a Carrera? Yes, but they are still relatively expensive.

Are the Boxster and Cayman nice cars? Yes, they are.

Do you think Porsches are overpriced German garbage? Then do not buy one.

Yeah, Car and Driver has a comparison test of the BMW GC and the Audi A7, and their GC was optioned up to at least $106k IIRC. I guess to some people those options matter, and kudos to manufacturers for offering so much choice. But honestly, I think I'd rather buy my Boxster for sunny summer days and spend my $30-some-k in option money on a Golf R to drive in bad weather.

For the difference in price between a base Boxster ($57k CAD) and a massively optioned Boxster S (approaching $120k CAD) you could actually buy an Audi A6 with 300hp, the sport package and the amazing real oak wood inlays.
