ok guys a few weeks ago i changed the water pump out cause the pump was leaking out the cap in the bottom..

yesterday my wife tells me the water temp light came on so i check and see its low..

today i pulled the power steering pump and seen it leaking out the plastic cap on the bottom..

this is a bosch pump it came with a little plastic cap for the bottom.. the pump that came off the car had it sealed with a aluminum cap (was leaking)..

question is can i get a sealant and seal it..

    pic for referance..

Won't hurt to try. Not sure if it is possible but can you get the aluminum cap off the old one and try to install it? I have no idea why a plastic one would have been used in the first place. That's just a bad idea.

went to get the sealant and decided to ask the parts guy about it and he went and grabbed another water pump off the shelf and it doesn't have the plastic cap and doesn't have an hole on it..

so i went ad removed the first pump and took it back.. date on the box of the first pump was 2006. so assuming very old stock..

tomorrow i will be putting the new pump in going to do some family bonding for the rest of the day..

    thanks..

Someone must have been sleeping on the job at the Bosch factory and that pump slipped by the aluminum cap guy!

That plastic cap is there to keep crap out of the hole. The hole is there to let you know when the seal on the pump shaft has failed. In other words, the hole is supposed to be there.
Tradition is the art of making the same mistake repeatedly, on purpose.

Not debating the existence of the hole, only the use of the plastic cap.
