Thread: My beetle just shuts off

  1. 08-18-2012 07:11 PM #1
I purchased my car 4/2012 and i had to take my beetle in today for it keeps dying at an intersection. They told me they don't know whats wrong with it. They ran the computer scan and nothing came back. They took it for a drive and nothing. So there keeping the car to see if they can figure out whats going on with my car. It is very scary to be in the middle of the intersection and your car just shuts off. No steering nothing. Has anyone else have this issue? Also I'm having the window issue too!!!!

If its bad gas, not covered, call your insurance. Happen to my dad once. Cars are too self diagnostic for them not to see what has malfunctioned.

Would be interesting to know what engine and transmission came with this car. Was this after fueling up? Was it raining? Could you tell us something more about this problem?

If you don't like cars that break down at intersections, you picked the wrong manufacturer.

My 2cents, there are many people who are hired to knock a product on the web, that is all they do, all day long is post negative comments about a production item,

Yes, I $itched about my windows, and some clips, but I do not believe this thread. My BF says, that if the car died at a light, codes are popin all over the place, and if bad gas, the knock sensor would send a code.

Maybe your dealer sucks, as most do. VW's are not that bad.

    Lol OP? Cricket, cricket.

I don't always start a vague VW bashing thread, but when I do...

Engine, transmission, mileage. Details? When it happened, weather when it happened, etc, etc.

I've bad-mouthed VW on and off since I was 10 yrs old... when Dad brought home a '73 Super Beetle. The last session began in 2000 when my NB left the dealer lot with smoke coming from the seat heater switch. Now almost 12 years and 205k miles later, I continue to call it my "stupid German car" each morning before I turn the key. I believe my consistent harassment has helped broken its will to be an unreliable Das Auto.

I wish you and all B12 owners the same luck in breaking your B12s' will.

That kinda scares me, because the 2nd day I had my car I was driving around a car wash and right as I turned in my car just shut off completely. Freaked me out but it never happened again, so I thought I somehow might have hit the push button but looks like it might be another issue.

My other half's Saab was doing this (once on the freeway). His 'cam position sensor' was bad. I think that's what it was called.

My 98 New Beetle I had would do that on cold mornings when the secondary air pump would kick in. Dealer replaced sensor for the secondary air pump and it never happened again. It only happened at a dead stop. NBD for me; just re-started the car. It never happened while in motion.

For both cars it did show a code when hooked to the dealer's PC. Yours should too. I hope you aren't dealing with a bad service dept.

Mine has died as start up and it is a DSG. It happened a few times and I assumed it was me not holding the break pedal in long enough...just trying to get used to the push button start. Then my fans started coming on right at start up when the car had been sitting all night. My check engine light finally came on, took it in, and they said it was the wiring harness to the fan that was too close and got caught. It wasn't working right and told the car it was hot when it wasn't. They replaced the wiring and moved it to a more secure place...haven't had an issue since. I would still think it would throw a code of some sort though...
I'm female. I like cars, , and randomness. I have a 2012 Bagged Turbo Beetle that likes to hang out at home. My daily is a '86 BMW E30.

Sorry guys for delay on responding. Car is still in shop they said that is a relay panel that shorted out. The car was supposeto have been fixed yesterday but then they call me and tell me they've decided to keep it a couple more days to make sure there is nothing else wrong with the car.

It seems to happen when it's rating or has been raining. I live in Florida do typically we rain every day but it was getting more frequent on when it was happening.
