Thread: Tesla's Elon Musk calls Fisker Karma 'a mediocre product at a high price'

“It’s a mediocre product at a high price”

“The car looks very big, and yet it has no trunk space and is very cramped inside, particularly in the rear seats.”

“The fundamental problem with Henrik Fisker — he is a designer or stylist…he thinks the reason we don’t have electric cars is for lack of styling. This is not the reason. It’s fundamentally a technology problem."

“It looks good. Particularly from the side it looks good. I don’t love the front. It looks too much like a caricature of a Mexican Bandito—the grille.”

      http://rumors.automobilemag.com/tesl...ma-163523.html

"Of course that's just my opinion; I could be wrong."

I'm with Tesla on this one. They seem to be doing it right, while Fisker is failing.

The Karma is one of the most beautiful cars on the road, but it seems to be a heap of crap

I like how the Karma looks, but my wife calls it the "Mustachio Car".

Personally I'm not a fan of Tesla. I think Musk makes products with a lot of sizzle but not much steak.

My boss test drove the Karma and said it was a piece of crap. He said it drove like a car 1/3 of its price. His daily is a Aston Martin V12.

Not sure if joke about cars catching fire or reference to media hotstreak Fisker is on...

Saw one in Forest Hill last week with a fairly attractive woman behind the wheel. I gawked a bit. Looks like nothing else on the road. Musk is right - it's a big car.

The Karma did not make a good first impression at Consumer Reports auto test center:

After getting it back repaired, they noted issues with outward visibility, interior room, touch screen control ergonomics, panel and trim gaps, and weight.

I live one block from the Tesla DC dealership, in one of the richest zip codes in the country. So far, I've seen zero, save that cobbled together prototype in the showroom.

You know as well as I do, the early adopters will be in Bethesda, Chevy Chase and McLean, not fricken Chinatown.

There's at least one on the road in town. I see a guy commuting on 14th from time to time.

For all I know, it could be the DP.
Looking for a ratty Miata? My '90 is for sale.

I sat in a Tesla yesterday and the interior was HORRIBLE. The fit in finish just plain terrible...

People who buy Fisker and Tesla couldn't care less about interior space, handling, fit and finish... all they want is to be perceived as beeing green loving econuts. Who in their right mind would buy a Fisker or Tesla over 530d or A6 3.0 TDI anyway....

I'd think an A7 or 6GC is more in line with these cars, but even those cars don't have the cachet of one of these super low volume electric cars.

Same here. I hope Fisker gets it together for the sake of future US auto tech growth.

But right now it looks like only Tesla has it really thought out. Tesla just has to figure out mass production.

The same people who gobbled up the Tesla Roadster because in Europe the tax structure makes EV cars very very attractive.

      I was speaking in general...

      Fisker sells in Europe, AFAIK...

There's no incentives or tax deductions for EVs/Hybrids in my country so both Tesla and Fisker would probably be M5 money.

What's crooked about him? Creating Paypal? Creating a consumer level path to space with SpaceX?

Building Tesla from scratch and risking his fortune doing it?

I saw a Karma a couple of weeks ago, driven by a wealthy looking older couple. First one I've ever seen (Karma that is, not a wealthy couple), I was surprised to even see one in Ontario. I've only seen one Tesla - for about 2 years now, I occasionally see a red Tesla roadster plying the regional highways around Halton Ont... it's the same guy commuting to work (I'd guess in Waterloo, where our tech industry is, and from the locations I've spotted the car).

I found the Karma to be pretty in some ways, ugly in others. The rear end is weird, the front is plain fugly. The panel gaps look kit-car ish... Definitely does not look like something made by a world class car maker, yet it doesn't look like it will fall apart either. Think GM passenger cars circa 1995 and you get the picture.

It's a really cool idea, but the weight and body assembly would turn me off. I'd just wait until General Motors unveils Volt mk2 and possibly a Cadillac version to have a range extended luxury model. At least GM has fixed its panel gaps, and interior fixtures. The newest Cadillac range is definitely world class... a Cadillac version of the Volt would be perfect (especially if it were larger then the Volt - on a lengthened chassis)... and would knock the Karma on its back.

Tesla guy needs to get his company off the ground before his opinion means squat.
