So i went and checked out a Golf GTI GLX. Looks like the car is great on the interior and engine runs great, but the exterior has tons of quarter sized dents from hail damage. Any input?

The dealer is asking too much for the car. I don't know where you live but here in Hawaii the car would sell for $3000 or less because of the year and mileage.

Why base your purchase on what others think is a good deal. A "good deal" is what YOUR willing to pay for it. Often times, people base a car's purchase strictly on the price when in reality, maintinence records, accident records, and test drives should be ones priority when purchasing a car. If you plan to keep the car for a couple of years, find a car that suits your needs and try not to settle. If the green Gti was $1,000 less but you wanted a silver one, you'll be kicking yourself in the rear every time you look at your car. Be patient, shop smart, and keep your options open for the right car.

stay away from dealers for mk4's. Check your local craigslist and the classifieds. sight unseen id pay 4500 tops for that car. Iv paid less for newer with less miles. Id keep looking. Just my .02

When I was searching for my mk4 I was hard pressed to find one with under 120k miles... Find a 2004 gti and pay the 6-8k for all the ectra goodies!
