Thread: ECS Air Intake Installation -2004 R32

  1. 08-19-2012 08:11 PM #1
Hey don't flame me .. just trying to do a few little upgrades on the R32 with my son... we purchased a few items from ECS - including the cold air intake. Pretty sure I can get this handled .. but was looking to see if anyone has installed this exact system.

Any thoughts, videos, etc would be appreciated...

bonus point -- anyone have a video of a front brake replacement on the 2004 R32 ?

    Basically:

2 screws hold the MAF to the air box, undo those with a philips
2 more 10mm hex bolts bolt the box to the car - undo those,
Pull the box back and out of the loop thing on the fender side - nothing holds it there cept force - just pull it cant break anything.

Next, jack the car up and remove the drivers wheel, undo the fender liner.

Look for how the rest of the airbox tubing is attached and remove it - i forget exactly.

Loosely attach the main pipe to the maf with the couplers supplied, then put the cone filter on so its right in front of the wheel. Tighten everything back up and test the car...

Just so you know - puddles will cause water to be sucked up into the motor - which can result in hydrolock... Be careful!

Short rams work well and even better in most cases.

This, AEM used to make a "bypass" kit where if ur intake sucked in water, it would essentially block it off and reroute it out. Not sure if they still have them though.

Not in the case of the Mk4 R32. Check out the many dyno threads in this forum.

Short ram = 0 hp gain. Any would be gain offset by hot engine air temp and increased turbulence killing air velocity. Great noise though.

Long tube intake = 18whp gain.

    Bull****...

If everyone on here could gain 18 whp from an intake, we would all have them. In most cases on here if people have intakes, they are short ram and are the EVOMS V-flow intake.

Show me multiple dynos where a Cold Air gives your 18whp... This isnt the 4g63 motor in an evo, intakes do not do much...

Thank you all for the information. i read a bit last night about the issue of water getting into the air intake and may reconsider this project for a different intake that does not drop down into the wheel compartment. thank you for that little tip -- could save me a few hours installing something that isnt appropriate for where we live..... we are going to do some DE's with the car - but not a race car - just doing some fun upgrades as right now it is totally stock.
