We'll I"ve postponed this thread for a while but I guess its time to get on it. lol this is my first VW, Bought IsLow two years ago for 800 bucks non running, but it was an easy fix, (clogged fuel line). drove it for a week then pulled it into the shop for the fun! while I"m here I want to thank my friends for their help, many names to list and I'm sure many more to come but you guys know who you are! from parts to tips and the lending of tools or a helping hand. IsLow is a 1984 MK1 Rabbit Diesel. The plan is to have a show/cruiser car done by the next leavenworth drive up here in Washington. well like my previous threads the pictures do the talking lol
here's when I first bought IsLow
One dent to be repaired
Let the Tear down begin!

Now the begining of the rear air ride set up! I took a thick stong tensel streingth C channel as a cross member connecting to the trailing arm cut off the rear shock mounts and welded them to the C channel.
My work bench lol
Notching the rear frame for more low!!

All mocked up

What size wheels you going to be running? Something big?
From what I remember seemed like the rabbit has enough travel to be within an inch or two of laying frame on a stock tire?

Yes the stock 13" rims with low profiles will be very close to laying frame but the control arms will hit before the frame does, hence why I raised mine and the towers to have the same amount of travel as stock but more easy to ride low. The rim size is going to be 15x6 with 165/45 tires. Heres an idea of what I'm planning to roll. This is the mock up.
Oh btw I put a new core support on it, DON'T WORRY, I pulled the squares off with care to help fix a friends car! lol
These rims that came with the car are the same size as the rims I'm planning on running great for measurments!
Thanks, but i do understand what you mean, for me its the fun of the build instead of just a restoration; most anyone can tear down a car and put it back together, the fun is making it custom and look factory. which will be done with mine. remember if your car is cooler then the other guys, it means your better than them.![]()

now here is the rear end box!
prepared and primed for the new rear floor!
The underside an inch above the rear end!
now to make the new floor!
