#2. Odds are good they'll be able to put in the time and attention to detail on the fender, versus the entire side of the car.

Wifes car got hit by a rock dropping from a log truck. The rock hit the drivers rear fender about 6 inches up from the bottom. It left a dime size dent and scraped the paint off. Body shop 1 wants $1000 . They want to repaint the whole side of the car from the windshield on back, claim it is needed to blend the paint(sunshine yellow) . Body shop 2 wants to unbolt the fender and on the bench pop the dent , spot paint the yellow, then clearcoat the fender and bolt it back on. $400. Both shops do state of the art work. I told my wife to go with #2. Any opinions ?

Just a thought. For a Paintless Dent Removal shop to get rid of the dent would only cost
about $50. Then to deal with the chip, DR Colorchip might be the way to go. Their entry
level kit is only about $40. You dab it on the chip....smear it with with the thumb in a
rubber glove.......then when it dries, simply use their special clear application liquid to
remove excess paint and leave the chip filled with your exact 'supplied by them' paint.

^^^What he said. Remove the fender, repair the dent, spray the entire fender. This isn't 1964, color matching the fender should be a piece of cake. No need to spray the rest of the car. They could do more harm than good. Find body shop #3 that has a clue and does good quaility work and ditch #1 & #2.
