I'm going to be sharing as much as possible, so I'll use this thread to do so.

I picked up the car from APR on Friday. Left about noon and got back to Orlando by 7:30pm.
Pretty much did no more than 10mph over the entire 466 mile drive. Georgia cops are ridiculous.
60 miles of I-75 in Georgia, we saw 17 cops looking for speeders. Then we hit the Florida border and drove exactly 80 miles before we saw the first speed trap.
I've been to APR twice, prior to this trip and got pulled over in Georgia both times, on way home. I vowed not to get pulled over again. I was lasered a few times, but not pulled over.

At this time, I can not post any dyno #'s or anything too specific. Arin will be releasing all the info within a few weeks, from what I understand. Car is fast and I'm sure will be made faster as I go. Once APR is done pushing a few of their Golf R blocks to the limit, they will be releasing a head upgrade for our cars. Software to go along with it. I'll likely do that and call it a day, as I'm not really wanting to go Stage 4......But who knows.

You may notice that I no longer have Forge's Twintercooler on....Well, As I'm sure APR will soon show/share, the APR intercooler performed better. To be fair, the data logging shows the Forge to be a decent intercooler and absolutely performed better than the stock set-up, but as you go through all the logs, each time the rpms went up, the temp curve rose higher than the same curve using the APR intercooler. The APR recovered a tad faster as well. Personally, I would not tell anyone to go with one over the other, but the data did show the APR set-up to be more efficient.

    Anyways,
Today, I took the car to my exhaust guy and had him remove the catalytic converter. While under the car, I said, "hey, let's just remove this entire section"....That being the cat and first muffler/resonator.
The APR/RSC exhaust is amazing in that it's able to really be a Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde system.
While cruising home, I think the soundakator on a stock R would create more drone than APR's exhaust. Under WOT it's like all hell is breaking loose, but not in an obnoxious way. Just a ton of air being sucked in and forced out with a vengeance.
That being said, I'm one of the those that wanted a little more noise all around.

Well, the little high-flow cat and pre-silencer sure do a lot, cause now my car is way louder under WOT......So much so, that I may have the pre-silencer re-installed...I'm going to enjoy the extra noise for now though.

I had an employee use my BlackBerry to make a quick video. I didn't and have not launched the car hard, as you'll notice, but you'll get a sense for how it sounds......I think Toeball will appreciate the turbo spool now noticeable through the exhaust.

I will get my Gopro Hero out soon and take some better video. In car, outside, etc....

I can't say I'm surprised. With the Forge unit you are putting a heat exchanger in front of another heat exchanger. The first unit gets plenty of ambient air but the stock core is now getting air that will always be hotter than ambient from the heat it removed passing over the first core. Glad to hear someone confirmed those results. Do you know if that will be shared?

With that intake, how's the clearance? Any potential issues with rubbing?

I'll be following your build as I've already got my eye on stg3 but will be waiting until spring/summer 2013 to go down that road. Thanks for sharing!

Nice...I am sitting on the fence on the exhaust.....was gonna wait until the spring but getting the itch now...also I lover the sound but I think for me with the resonator and the cat in it will be exactly what I would want.....

Do you know what engine component was exactly changed for your stage 3 kit?

Not sure about rubbing issues. Intake hardware is same as European R, so i think any issues would have presented themselves already.

Not sure if any engine components were changed. Pretty sure we're getting a brand new down pipe design though.

@geist296, you'll probably lve the APR exhaust, as they sell it. Mine is definitely louder now, but was pretty sweet before I started hacking stuff off.

    Nice USP sticker

When I drive back down from upstate new york end of October I might have to swing over to orlando and check out your stage 3 and hear your exhaust in person. I love my APR TBE but I wouldn't mind it being a tad louder.

You'd think so. If you get a chance take a look and let me know. All these VWR issues, or not issues, are freaking me out a bit.

pretty sure that intake will only work with stage 3 because of the size of it

APR uses the carbonio for their stage 3 kits. Something could probably be rigged up to use another intake, but I don't see the need. My old Stage 3 used the stock air box.

Yeah, I had USP install the Intake and HPFP when I went to Stage 1+. They also did the downpipe, intake and software on the 2012 GLI I had for a short period.

Those guys are pretty squared away. Would definitely use them again for anything.

Can you talk about spool at all? If so what's it like compared to the stock snail?

Does the intake sound like a large vacuum cleaner?

Been trying to watch boost gauge and RPM's at same time. Seems like I'm hitting 25 psi right at or before 3400 rpms.

Arin mentioned, in the Max R thread, they were going to use the GTX28RS turbo.

That's what's in my car and in Max R.

It's insane at WOT. But, believe it or not, at 80mph, no drone. Best of both worlds.

We're supposed to have some nasty weather for a week, but I will get a better outside video put together soon.

How long did you run with the Forge Twintercooler Scott? Did you notice any negative effects on the AC temperature or coolant temperature? These are my only concerns with the Forge unit because it is putting another layer in front of the AC condenser and the radiator. I don't use the AC much but it is useful once in a while.

Are we thinking that the Forge+stock system is sufficient for Stage 2+? I'm sure I'd go with the APR for Stage 3 but I'm not planning to take my mods that far.

The Forge was on for a short time, but I had my Scangauge II plugged in and did a lot of comparisons to stock, while it was on. I'm pretty sure I shared those numbers in the Forge Twintercooler thread.

With the Forge on, and my car Stage 1+, the intake temps dropped 10-20 degrees on average. I was impressed with it......... It's funny you asked about the A/C condenser and radiator, because it was cool enough this morning for me to have my a/c off and I noticed my intake temps were staying lower than with the a/c on. The intake temp, with the a/c off, dropped 6-7 degrees, within 1/4 mile of turning the a/c off.
Considering that my intercooler is behind the a/c condenser, this is proof that there's a negative effect when the condenser is doing it's thing and acting as a heat exchange unit.
Unfortunately, I didn't ever try this with the Forge, but I would expect similar results, considering the stock intercooler was still being used.

So take a look at the following pictures and you'll see the intake temps compared to ambient temp. The lower intake temp is obviously the time the a/c was off.

    A/C ON:

    A/C OFF:

I did this over and over again, for about 15 miles of my drive. Same speed and the only difference was that the ambient temp went to 80 degrees over time. The relationship to ambient was the same though, 6-7 degrees cooler intake temps with a/c off.

The APR core is substantially larger and more efficient than the stock core. I think it is probably a great choice for > stage 2 applications. I think it's actually probably a good upgrade for even a stock golf R, but I wouldn't say the Forge Twintercooler is not a viable upgrade.

hopefully, APR will post the data they shared with me. I didn't get the impression they had anything against Forge, so I'm not sure how they are going to address the results.

to answer your question, no I didn't notice any negative effects with a/c and or water temps. and it's been hot as a fox in a forest fire out here.

Stage 1+ right now. I've got a lot of mods in line to be put on the car by GMP Performance in Charlotte. It will all end up on my thread in about two weeks time.

Cool. I was pretty pleased with Stage 1+, compared to stock. To me, that's how the car should have been sold to us.

I can tell a difference in the morning, when the engine bay isn't heat soaked. Car is quick quick in the AM! can't wait for it to drop down into the 50' & 60's here....woohoo!
