Until Car Models years up to 2009, this was the optional Upgrade for all of them. Starting 2010 The car maker found a cheaper solution that can be installed, but some features had to be removed from it. RNS-315 came in to replace more expensive feature packed RNS-510. The only car RNS-510 can be ordered with as an option is Passat, CC and Tiguan; all others are all now being shipped with RNS-315 if you choose Navigation option as the Car maker wants to save funds on this unit but still charge same price for upgrading to Navigation Package.

Don't be fooled, and get the real thing now and see the difference that most of Enthusiast speak off.

*** Unlike RNS-510 Unit, the RNS-315 Lacks the following features that RNS-510 has.

*** 1. It does not have a Hard Drive for Music storage. Also you cannot scroll/move the map on the Map View Screen.

*** 2. The Resolution is half the size of the RNS-510 and Screen is about 1.2" smaller than RNS-510 - This is the biggest Drawback as smaller screen and lower resolution really make night and day difference.

*** 3. RNS-315 Lacks HD-Tuner, that means no HD-Radio for you guys unless you have RNS-510

*** 4. Traffic reports directly on your map, along with Sirius Travel Link (FW 3690 and above units only!!! )

Now with Software 4366 released on May 5th 2013.

Firmware 4366 Has Sirius Travel Link and Weather Reports built into the unit via Sirius subscription, also Road Conditions, gas prices and local news.

Yes it would work just fine.

Everything is included in the kit to make this work apart from Bluetooth functionality depending what setup you have installed in your current car.

RNS-315 has Bluetooth built in so if you swap it out for the RNS-510 you would need to get 9W7 BT kit.

yes you can re-use your GPS antenna that is already in the car, but I would still include the antenna with the purchase so you could include it with your RNS-315 if you decide to sell it to recover some funds from this upgrade.

I also stock 9W7 BT kits and even have couple Passat installation cases for the modules that go underneath the passenger seat.

Hi there, could you please clarify what I'd have to do to get this working in a 2013 CC Lux? I wanted the 510 from the factory, but its only available with the V6 which I didn't want.

So I have an RNS 315 in it now, I'd like to keep the functionality of everything I have and make this as easy as possible plug in play. I really do not want to splice any wires on a brand new car if possible.

I'm mostly concerned about, the ipod cable thats in the glovebox, the steering wheel controls, bluetooth mic thats already in the car working with the RNS-315 and the command center in the middle of the gauges working the way it does now with the navigation display etc...

Also if you could answer please, what it takes to enable VIM on this unit. I see all over the forum via search that there is a free update/firmware that anyone can utilize to reprogram the unit from stopping VIM at 5mph, and tricking it into setting that limit to 255mph. The tutorials I've read on it so far said that its very YMMV and that it works for some firmware versions but not others. Any comment on whether or not this will work for this latest revision, and if not, what other options there are in order to obtain VIM on it?

edit: I noticed above you said the 9w7 would be necessary if going from the RNS-315 to the RNS-510... would you be willing to PM me whatever is needed to do this conversion on a 13' CC Lux? So far I'm seeing its the RNS-315 and the 9w7 bluetooth unit. Everything will be shipped to 33324 if i can afford the coinage. thank you in advance for your time!

Warranty for the RNS-510 is directly from me, so if anything should happen with the unit you are covered for 1 year.

BT kits are $350.00

As far as latency issues, some people expect instantaneous response from technology when you press buttons around, If you look closely at the threads I have posted and buyers have posted in, you will see that they do not complain about the latency issues with the newest units.

I had 315 in my Golf R and going to RNS-510 without noticing too much difference, yes it is slower, but not as much as people talk and brag about their RNS-315's.
