Had a spill at the gas station (pump didn't stop, and it overflowed) and now the hole for the gas pump looks different to me (maybe I'm going crazy). Thanks in advance for a pic. Wanna see if something is messed up.

Update: I asked others and they confirmed that I'm missing the silver circle which you need to "break through" with the gas pump. Perhaps it is stuck in the "up" position. Has this happened to anyone before? Guess it's going to the dealer unless anyone has any advice.

Looks like mine. If u stick the nozzle in too far it will overflow. I've learned not to push it in all the way. It will over flow. And I know some douche bag on here is going to say "that's what she said".

Douche bag might be a bit harsh. Nothing wrong with a little humor

On a related note, a few weeks back I unscrewed my gas cap to fill up and it sounded like it released a huge vacuum or pressure from the tank. I was a little concerned that it's not venting properly. Hasn't done it since or at least not as dramatic anyway.

Yeah seriously! I use "that's what she said" more times than I can remember. If you can't take a little humor, perhaps the nozzle is stuck in the wrong hole.

On a serious note, could also be that pump. Not recently but I've had gas overflow in previous cars. Just randomness, I didn't think twice about it.

Dealer says it's normal. It looks from the picture above others are missing the silver circle as well. Is it stuck in an "up" position or something? I swear I remember there being one.

If you had an over flow, it is not the fault of your gas filler tube. It is, however, the fault of the gas pump nozzle.

When the nozzle detects liquid, it shuts off. It works that way if you are filling your gas tank, a gasoline can, a bucket or a horse trough. It does not matter what your are filling with gasoline.

There is nothing wrong witih your car.

Apparently you have never purchased gas for a lawn mower.

Thanks for the reply. That is my understanding of how the gas pump works, but I am thinking that perhaps the mishap at the gas pump caused damage to the gas filler tube. I recall having a silver circle which you need to push open with the gas nozzle before pumping gas (most cars have this). I don't see mine anymore... Just an open hole for the gas nozzle now. I'm surprised no one has/can commented on the silver circle. The image below is from a GTI. The silver circle that needs to be pushed open is missing on my car.

The round ring you are referring to is called a flapper valve. I have had cars in the past wiith them but I can also assure you, the CC does not.

    Now you can quit worrying.

Does anyone know of a an available flapper valve mod?

I'm thinking glass ceramic composite with a carbon fiber inlay.

I swear my car had a flapper valve! Two years of pumping gas into the car (and no other cars for that matter), how could I be making that up? It's possible that certain model years don't have them, but I'm sure mine used to have one. Will someone post a picture of their gas tank flapper valve?

All these other vw's (2.0t's) have the flap, but ours don't? Could you have broken off yours too?

    Well................let's put it this way,

I got my CC, VR6 almost 3 years ago. If the little flapper broke off, it must have happened immediately.

I don't ever remember seeing it and I have never had an over fill at the pump and I always leave the auto refill on until it stops at the gas station.

Again, I stress, I have never had an over flow. Never, never, never. Case closed.

I suggest you relax, have a glass two, perhaps even 3 of wine and if this happens again in your life-time, let us know. Just stay away from that particular pump and I believe you will be okay for the rest of your life.

But...........perhaps someone else will chime in here and explain to the both of us how we are totally insane and in another world. We can only hope.

So, the consensus here is that VW selectively installed this valve? Or is it dependent on where your CC was built?

Now that all the dust has settled on this thread, I guess it doesn't matter if we have it or not.

Mine, without the flapper valve has never had a run over problem at the gas station and I assume, those of you with the flapper haven't had any problems either.

To the OP. Your over fill problem was not the fault of the car. It had to do with that particular gas pump.

Yes, I believe you had one and it is now resting in peace at the bottom of your gas tank. But, I don't think this will cause you any problems.

If you do have more over flows at the gas station, you can point at me and say, "I told you so". If that happens, I will apologize profusely.

The nozzle pushes this flapper in and it is physically held open while fueling. This can't stop over flow unless you take out the nozzle, at which point I hope nothing is flowing out of the nozzle. I scanned the posts quickly so maybe I am missing something

I see that the gas cap is now tethered. My 2011 still has the peg on the cap and a corresponding hole on the door hinge.

EDIT: my cap is tethered also. Just checked it...

Yes, there have been a lot of unnecessary posts on this thread that were way off.

The OP had legitimate questions which were eventually answered but not without many immature remarks as well.

I am sincerely surprised that a moderator did not remove a few of them.

Wish my 2012 had the peg on the gas cap. I don't really like letting it flop around or have to hang it on the door (ummm...."that's what she said").

On a serious note, I think the PZEV versions of our CCs don't have the peg and do have the "flapper".
