Thread: Audi TT in Pakistan - Timing Belt Failure, help needed

  1. 08-21-2012 02:19 PM #1
Being a big TT fan, I imported an Audi TT from Japan, being driving fine for last 2 years then bang Timing belt went on the Motorway.

    Engine: AUQ
    8N9
    1.8 T 180 bhp
    Model: 2003 Coupe

Had it picked up by Porsche Pakistan who are probably the best engineers out here and they gave me a list of parts to get but I am having trouble understanding a few of them as follows:

    1. Valve Guide Set: I am assuming this the Value Guide for both the intake and exhaust.

    2. Tappet Cover side rubber ?

    3. Valve Seals : assuming these are the Valve stem seals ?

Everything else they mentioned I have got covered but above two confusing. please help.

In addition can I get AUQ engine parts from the US as prices are alot cheaper than for example the UK.

Please help fellow Audi TT member Pakistan

P.S Audi Pakistan is useless and a mega rip off !

    Welcome.

I assume tapper cover side rubber refers to the cam adjuster seal which you would do as part of the valve cover gasket refresh. (tapper cover is the same thing as valve cover)

Valve guides and seals are usually looked at during a head rebuild. Sometimes they need to be replaced, sometimes not. If you can afford it, now would be a good time with the new valve job.

Hope that helps. Sorry to hear about the timing belt!

Depending on what they charge you to do the head work you might come out on top by buying a used head with low millage.

MOST 1.8T heads are interchangeable without modifying anything else. As an example I run an AEB head on an AWP block.

Did they give you a quote yet?

    Been offered a the following:

AUDI TT MK1 2006 ENGINE 1.8 180BHP DONE 28000 MILES ENGINE CODE BVR

what do you reckon if I put this head on the AUQ block ? costing about $1500 without freight

Porsche Pakistan are pretty reasonable in price can get virtually all the parts for about $1200 ex works so would have to hop on plane and bring back in luggage.

Labor costs in addition would expect to pay about $800

Or get the above engine and have it freighted over.

    advice please.

Thanks for the support ! Get some great looks when driving the audi amoungst the thounsands of Corollas and Hondas.
