Boy, I had a fun ride home today in torrential downpour.....the car was darting all over.....especially over the traffic line water....car would dart to the other side of the line of water. The tires on the front are at about 1/2 thread or more but the rears are just a bit more than being down to the thread wear indicators. This will be the 3rd set of tires with just 18,000 miles on the car. I changed the rears at 8,000 miles and the fronts at 10,000 last time.

I will get it aligned again but this time via the Audi dealer. I took it right after changing the tires last time and it was within specs. Not sure why it's wearing tires so fast when others on here get decent mileage out of the same tires. Btw, it's the Toyo's on the TTS.

    Might be your driving...
I just change my first set of Toyos at 26k.

Are you sure about that 25mm front sway bar?

I do drive at speeds a little over the limit but I'm by no mean harsh on my car! I think it's alignment issue....maybe even the darting could be related to that.....

And yes, I'm sure on the bar: http://www.neuspeed.com/131/2/0/2595...-bar-25mm.html

Gotta be alignment and perhaps the tires. I rotate tires every 5k to keep even wear and am no longer a fan of Toyos ... Anyway, I'm hard on my car (ie: drive it like you stole it) and even with a track day under my belt, I'm doing better than 8-10k miles on my set of Contis although don't get more than 2 seasons out of summers (approx. 15k miles).

I echo the alignment posts. Same thing happened to me driving through a downpour on the Turnpike to Miami. Darting all over the place (it had previously been rock solid in the rain even at 80 or so through puddled water) and scaring the hell out of me. Had it checked and found the rear toe in was off badly.
That also chewed up the rears in about 7,000 miles. The alignment cured it, and I'm back to getting about 15,000+ miles out of a set of tires (Conti DW) and stability is back to normal.
One thing I've found from previous experience with aligning a 911, there are some mechanics who know what they are doing on alignments, and some who don't. I always ask the service manager to tell me who their best guy is on alignment, then I'll set an appointment when THAT guy is available, even if it means another date, waiting, etc.

That's some serious tirewear! I've got almost 16K miles on my RS, been rotating tires front to back every 5K miles, and I'm pretty sure they will last at least to 20K.
Matter of fact, I was doing a bit of comparison shopping on TireRack yesterday and thought that anyone considering one of these cars needs to keep the price of replacement tires in mind. The cheapest ones I would consider were the Hankook Ventus V-12's at $199 each, many others are closer to $400 a piece including the OEM Toyo's. Depending on how much you drive and how hard, that cost is going to come up once a year or once every two years probably on average.

I'm not paying $400 each for the Toyo's.....I get them for $270 plus mount, bal, etc.....

I agree-toe is prob out.....they are wearing perfectly flat but just wearing fast.

Update: Toe was not in specs both front and rear.....so hopefully the tire wear will be in line now.....they gave me a before and after sheet on all the specs..... Audi Jacksonville, did a good job.
