Thread: Audi TT inchangeable head information and guidance needed

  1. 08-21-2012 06:44 PM #1
A kind member has suggested I can replace my AUQ engine head with another engine code head for example I am being offered a BVR engine complete but just want the head and all its bits.

Reason being Timing Belt failed, so major overhaul.

It is also working out to be cheaper than getting the parts and donor engine is low mileage.

But do I need to change the accessories that do not come with i.e turbo etc

Your help is greatly appreciated forum members.

Essentially all 058/06a (1.8T) heads are interchangeable, you'll just need to swap the stock parts onto the new cyl head core. The only major difference is port size, and head bolt sizing. You should be fine

Once again, wrong. All 1.8T heads can use either 10mm or 11mm OEM bolts. The 058 blocks take the 11mm bolts, the 06A blocks take the 10mm bolts. Head bolt size is dictated by the block, not the head. The only thing that needs to be dealt with when using a head from a different engine code is the correct cam position sensor wheel, the cam chain tensioner, and the SAI combi pump. I've run AEB cams and cam gear in an AWP head, so you don't have to change cams or the gear.

20v - Glad you set that straight!

All 1.8T heads are NOT blindly interchangeable.

OP sorry, I'm not familiar with the non-US motor codes so I could not help you. Only idea I have is to look on your motor and see what you have.

Also don't forget about VVT vs non-VVT, but that can be swapped over obviously.
