How rare is a red interior on a '79? I've only really seen black and brown to be commonplace
I found, amazingly, an Indian red 79 with a red interior at a local yard and wondered if the interior was worth grabbing even it wasn't in the greatest shape
The car also had chrome trim, even chrome tail light trim, which as far as I know wasn't common at all on 79s. all the ones I've seen have been black trim. It was all in great shape so I grabbed all if it and a few good seals

Pretty rare.... Then again, S1 models are pretty rare these days. I had a red interior in mine and so far have swapped almost all of it to black (started with Corrado leather seats) which I prefer. I'll get to the carpet one of these days

As to the tails, chrome trim started around 78 if I recall correctly....black trim for the 'S' model only.

Indiana red came with a red interior pretty commonly, but black and brown were much more common overall from what I've seen.
    Deal with it.

I'd guess that 5% of the Srockpop is red.
Rarer yet is Brick red with the brown interior bits...2%
    Tan about 10%
White is the rarest...only the 75's had it. 1%
    Dark green 2% (yuck!)

    Black= everybody else!

Don't forget the Bedouin interior found in Cobalt Metallic 77s and 78s. Or the plaids from 75-77 cars.
    Deal with it.

    Hmm...

Well, just to confuse the issue more; I have a '79 Indiana Red, it has a black interior (nuthin' special). But OTOH, my first Scirocco was a '79 Cirrus Grey with... wait for it... RED interior.

    Go figure...

Or Parchment, only on the '78s with the Brazil Brown Metallic. Later years of the Brown got a darker tan interior.

What about the Sienna interior .. I wouldn't consider that a brown unless I'm mistaken. At least a red or black are easy to match with newer vinyl.

Just to add to this I had a platinum grey '79 with red interior. Also, a friend of mine has a white
    '80 with red interior.

What time capsule did you dig up to find this? It's not faded, the dash doesn't appear to have large cracks, hell you don't even have speaker cut-outs in the doors! (THAT is probably the rarest bit of all!)

I'm looking for red interior bits, mainly the carpet, so if the one you found is in good shape and you want to make a sale let me know!

That interior is gorgeous! Unfortunately, the one I was looking at wasn't nearly as pretty
The more I looked at it the less I liked it; the door cards had speaker cut outs, the rear cards had holes where the bench had rubbed against it when you put it up and down, the carpeting was stained.
Not really worth keeping. At least not worth the exorbitant amount the yard wanted for it.
    Ah well

Next time I'm out to the barn (maybe this week?) I'll look around. I may still have a red carpet set.
