It depends on the state that you buy it from, what state is it? Ultimately you should not end up paying more than you do here. Most states have reciprocal agreements with each other. What state is it?

Looking at picking up a vehicle from a dealer out of state. Concerned about paying taxes on the purchase of the vehicle. I don't want to pay twice as much on taxes.
So if I bought the car out of state and paid taxes for that state in the deal, would I have to pay again down here? I understand that I will have to pay the taxes in our registration fees down here, which is fine. I'm talking about sales tax on the purchase price of the car.
Anyone able to shed some light on this for me?

This website has a list of states and their tax rates. Some states do not allow for reciprocity so those states should not charge you sales tax and you will have to pay the full amount when you get back. Since we have one of the highest rates most likely you will pay that states rate and then the difference when you get back. This is how it works going from AZ to another state so I would think it works about the same the other way around.

Nevada and California both have higher sales tax rates than us so they should lower what they charge to right around 6.6% and then you would be responsible for applicable city and county sales tax when you registered it here in AZ.

Not to under cut you James... But I had a great experience with Pendfed.org... 1.9% is NICE!!
https://www.penfed.org/used-auto-loan/
I'm not sure if you guys have worked with them before... but they offer great rates! All I do is keep a $30 balance in a checking with them, and I qualify for their loans.

I've bought from dealers out of state. You do not pay tax at purchase point. You will end up getting hit with a "vehicle usage tax of 6.5% when you register the car in Az.
