      92 GTI 16V, 88 Scirocco 16V (sold), 20th AE GTI #2269
      08-29-2012 12:12 AM #1
      SOLD

The time has come that I'm thinking of selling my Scirocco. I've owned it for the last 8 1/2 years, and it's been great to me, but lately it's been sitting, and not being driven.. Anyway, it's got a lot done to it, and I'd like to see it go to someone that can take it to the next level and enjoy it.

      The good:
      Euro bumpers
Euro headlights & corner lights (amber)
      Kamei mesh grill
      Stock 16V body kit
      H&R sport springs
      JOM lowering spring caps
      Bilstien sport struts/shocks
Auto Tech sway bars front and rear
Old style Auto Tech front upper stress bar
      stock 16V lower stress bar
Urethane bushings throughout (front and rear)
new lower control arms with new ball joints
      new tie rod assemblies
      new upper strut mounts
      Urethane rear shock mounts
6 line stainless braided brake hoses
new Scirocco 16V 22mm master cylinder
      new proportioning valves
axles were replaced with new EMPI units about 25k miles ago
rear brakes were done about 20k ago with stock rotors and PBR Metal Master pads, rear wheel bearings were replaced at the same time with german bearings and seals
Front pads have about half life, they are PBR Metal masters as well, with ATE Atom slot rotors
Front wheel bearings were replaced about 20k ago as well, also with german bearings
2.0 16V out of a '92 GTI - all new main and rod bearings, compression cylinders 1-4 is as follows: 185psi, 190psi, 190psi, 200psi - VERY strong motor
new clutch cable, factory Scirocco 16V version
      new throttle cable
      new lower steering column bearing
      lightened flywheel
Freshly fully rebuilt MkIII trans (tall gears)
      New clutch
      new speedo cable
      new radiator
all new hoses about 10k ago, as well as all belts, including timing belt

195/50r15 Dunlop Direzza DZ101's, about half tread

I also have lots of parts to go along with.

      The bad:

The A/C doesn't currently work, a hose broke. I have had the hose rebuilt, and I got the new compressor because the system has been open for a while. The only part that would be needed to get the A/C working again would be a new reciever/drier and expansion valve. Then you could install the hose, and flush the system. After that it would just need an evac and charge. (would need converted, it's still an R12 system)
Also, just a warning, the car does vibrate from the motor, it has urethane inserts in the side trans and motor mounts, as well as Techtonics heavy duty front and rear mounts. The motor does not move, as such the vibration goes through the body. If you're not comfortable with this, the urethane inserts can be removed, and should take care of most of the vibration. I put these in because I had planned on autocrossing the car, just never actually had a weekend off work that I could.

Also, it does not have the tilt/slide sunroof anymore, the original roof had a lot of broken bits, so I put an A2 GTI sunroof in that does work, just no tilt feature.

The car does have 279k on the body, but obviously it doesn't have that many mechanically, and the body is in great shape.

as for price; with the ATS Cups, $4500, FIRM, without the Cups $3700

A bump for Geoff and for a nice car well-worth the price of admission.

Only luck needed is for the Australian government to allow the car to be imported... The Scirocco is going "down under"

It's not just "some Aussie" his name is Grant and I've sold him quite a few parts over the years. I have also met him in person, very cool guy, and very into Sciroccos, which btw were never imported to Australia...

13" wheels won't fit over my brakes, the Cups barely clear as it is.

Unfortunately the deal fell through, the cost of shipping to Australia went up, so the car is now back up for sale. I have updated the list of what's done to it, as I have done some work on it in the last year. I have also changed the price to reflect this.

Damn nice car you have. If I wasn't getting married later this year, I would sell the gti for this. I think I saw your car at the pavilion s about a year ago.

Sorry, no trades, I have too many cars as is, and I need to make room for a new arrival that will be here in May...

and yeah, about a year ago is the last time I took the car up to the pavillions

Oh, and Paul, why the bad timing??

I have seen this car and ran next to it over to Bonelli and back.
GEE-OFF knows his shizzle....so you're getting a properly sorted car.

Just because the car is a very good value and I am still up to my eyeballs in my project.

This car is a very good deal and Geoff is meticulous in his work.

      Update:

Plates were expired and my apartment complex threatened to tow the car, so I took it through emissions and got a new plate sticker. The car passed emissions beautifully, like it has EVERY TIME I've taken it.

So, it won't have to go through emissions for another 2 years

Ofcourse, it is 25 years old, so technically you could get classic car insurance and not worry about that...
