The good: It's a Vanagon! It has taken me on many adventures in the pacific northwest and down to Austin from there. She's a tank, she drives like a comfortable sedan but has also hauled band gear for me like a truck. (note: This was NOT a band tour van! no way. used mainly for vacations, small excursions, grocery store trips, and the 10 minute commute to work every other day)

The Bad - Since it is an older vehicle, this Vanagon requires upkeep and maintenance more than many vehicles. This is part of loving a Vanagon! I bought this Vanagon from it's previous owner (he owned it 10 years, had every single piece of paperwork down to oil changes and spark plugs in a folder which I now possess) and he lived in Washington State (super mild weather) and he didn't have issues with it's temperature. Since I've brought it down here to Texas, I was mindful of the temperature changes. I had to change a radiator hose in New Mexico in October due to a coolant leak from that hose, so I suggest in the future because Austin is much hotter, to be mindful that the Vanagon may be more prone to heat issues with all the rubber hoses inside. Other than this, there is a rust spot above the back left tire, and the windshield wiper fluid pump may need to be replaced. If she sits for too terribly long, the battery may need to be recharged. Sometimes there is a oil puddle when she sits a long time, other times not.

I have a checklist of to-dos for this van, ask me about it when you come by to take a look! It's a project by default, but it's been a solid every other day driver for me since I've had it (over a year).
