Need advice: Rav4 with a blown engine

I blame the stop engine light.

If the stop engine light came on, did he stop the engine IMMEDIATELY, or did he continue to drive the vehicle?

If he continued to drive, he is 100% at fault. Stop engine means STOP engine.
