I just drove from Buffalo New York to Savannah Georgia on Friday and then back yesterday for a job interview. I only stopped to eat, get gas, and use the restroom. It was about 15 hours of driving each way and I did both trips straight through. What's the longest you guys have gone without a real stop?
My cutoff is about 12-13 hours. Just did Montreal to Chicago last week, tomorrow I'm heading back to Montreal. It's about 13 hours, suprisingly my supposed gas guzzler (2008 Jetta 2.5L 6AT) did a hand calculated 31.36MPG on the trip down here at 70-75MPH.
Got up at 6:30 after about 4 hours sleep and went to 3 job interviews. Ended up leaving Michigan at 1:30 or so and got back to the Boston area around 2:30 am. Definitely the most tiring drive/day. The longest one I've done in one shot was moving out to Michigan which took 15 hours following the moving truck/trailer.
LA to pittsburgh.. a little over 35 hours all alone only stopped for gas, and restroom, never for more than 10 mins. Good times.
Ended up being up for about 52 hours when it was all over. Amusingly after being up for 24 hours I wasnt tired anymore, and didnt need any more stimulants.
Did central IL to SoCal in 29 hours for college spring break. Me and 3 friends in an A2 GTI. I did all but about 6 or 8 hours of the driving.
Did Las Vegas to Chicago straight through with Bryan when he picked up the 318is Mwerks project car. We took turns regularly. It went great, other than the expensive a@@ ticket Bryan picked up in NV.
Jamie and I did Chicago to Salt Lake in the 2003 R32 back in the day, but that was pretty easy driving compared to the other two.
Used to go Tuscaloosa, AL to Kankakee, IL solo in 8 hours (700 miles) when I was young, stupid, working in a new city, and wanting to visit my then girlfriend, now wife.:banghead:
And that was the first leg of a 4500mi road trip through Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Ohio, Niagara Falls and back to Maine.
3 Adults, 4 Kids, 3 Dogs, in a brand new rental Dodge Caravan (142mi)
Grand Targhee, WY to Huntsville, AL and had to go through Denver to drop someone at the airport. Google maps says 1830mi and 27 hours. 7 people in a Honda Odyssey (6 after Denver). Absoulately brutal, but driving the Teton Pass at dawn with no one else on the road, a couple inches of fresh snow and the beginning of a super clear blue bird day was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
At the end of that drive, I had to unpack, wash, and then repack all the ski gear and then drive 220 miles back to school for class the next morning. Total zombie mode.
sioux falls to spokane. ~1200 miles. corrado. near american thanksgiving time so lots of night time. woke up the next morning feeling super springtime fresh lemme tell ya!!!
Shreveport, LA to Warsaw, IN. 910 miles, 14hr 11min.
With food, gas stops and the construction on I30 it ended up being around 17 hours. We did stop on the way back because we knew how much the construction would slow us down. My 1.8t nevarlose did do ~31mpg though.
total trip was from NYC to Park City UT in 2 days, i pulled of at some rest stop to sleep for few hours.
day 1 13 hours - 900 miles
day 2 17 hours - 1,300 miles
also for past few winter seasons (before i moved to Denver) i was doing the drive from Long Beach CA to Denver CO, about 1050 miles, best time 14 hours , average 16 hours
Driven from Austin, TX To Ocean City, MD, and then back 3-4 days later. 1,675 miles each way. Done it 5 times. Only once have I stopped for the night to rest. Takes about 25-27 hours.
Driven from Austin to Helen, GA. 4 Times 1,050 miles each way. Normally takes about 15-17 hours.
Driven from Austin, TX to Las Vegas, NV 1,300 miles each way. Takes about 19-20 hours.
All for car shows.
Drove from Montgomery, AL to Tucson, AZ to bury my grandfather at his funeral. 1,600 miles each way.
South Beach, Miami to Charlotte North Carolina; Google Maps says over 10 hours and 700+ miles but I did slightly less than 8. The Beltronics STI Magnum I picked up in Miami helped
I was driving back to Toronto, stopped for the night.
Buffalo, MN (just west of MPLS) to DC - if I remember it was close to 1200 miles, did it in about 20 hours with fuel-up stops and lunch/dinner.
Longest with multiple drivers was DC to Billings, MT - 2000 miles and did it in about 40 hours since two of us swapped out of the driver's seat, and we had some extended stops along the way for the touristy stuff.
Mine isnt quite as long....10-10.5 hours from Riverdale, GA to Romulus MI......pretty much the equal to driving from Hartsfield-Jackson to Detroit Metro (airports)
I don't remember how long it was but had to be 20+ hrs. the fam was headed to the virgin islands and we were set to fly from cincinnati to new jersey then down to the spot. when we got to nj we found out my sister and i had expired passports even though my parents weren't because they go after 5 years when youre under age, so we got a rental, drove to cincinnati to get birth certificates, then chicago to get our passports done day of, then back to nj to catch a flight out. granted my dad drove most of the way but it was rough being in the car that long. and did i mention halfway to cincinnati we got rear ended in rush hour traffic? added a good 2 hrs to the trip just waiting for police to get to us.
me driving personally, probably about 11hrs trying to get back to school in alabama from cincinnati on the sunday after thanksgiving. worst traffic ever.
All of these in either my S4 or TTRS. I put a lot of miles on my cars.
Back when I was in the Navy (Submarines) I did a cross country trip from Virginia Beach to Los Angeles non-stop but I had one other person to swap with. That drive took us a little over 1 1/2 days. About 40 hours.
Drove from Seattle to Reno on one tank. Stopped to take a leak twice and once to grab a gas station corn dog. I did bring a small 1 or 2 gallon tank of diesel for an emergency. Never used it.
