I just purchased a b5.5 v6 fwd after having my b5.5 1.8t for almost 3 years, and I'm curious as to what I can do without doing a custom exhaust. I know techtonics has that exhaust, but I'd like something with dual outlets. Do A4 exhauats fit the same?

This rarely looks nice on passats. No, a4 exhuast won't work unless you had a 4motion. You would need to do a lot of customization and gain nothing at the end. It will most likely cause back pressure so ultimately you will probably lose performance. I'd leave it alone.

i thought the oem muffler had dual outlets already? you can cut the down-turned tips off the muffler and run straight tips out the back.

unless you're talking about running a true dual exhaust setup with it coming out each side. while the v6 does have dual exhaust coming off the engine, the reason it uses a y-pipe to run back to a single line is due to the design of where the gas tank sits. on a 4-motion, the tank is closer to the middle and allows for room for exhaust on both sides. fwd, the tank takes up the rear passenger area, so the only way would be to run custom piping back to the driver-side and then behind the rear bumper to the passenger side. the added piping would give you nothing in terms of better performance (possibly make things worse). it would be done for aesthetics only.

you're better off upgrading with a custom catback setup (techtonics or a fabricated setup using aftermarket parts) that widens the stock piping to 2.5" and replace the res and muffler with performance/high flow aftermarket parts (borla, magnaflow, etc.). you'll get some nice tones... MAYBE a very slight boost to performance, but it likely will either be the same or not really enough of an improvement to really feel. this type of mod usually pairs better with a supercharger (big gains) or a chip tune (minimal gains over stock). otherwise, most do it just for the looks (choice of tips running out the back), and for the sound.

Thanks, this was helpful! I heard a a6 avant with an exhaust an fell in love with the sound. But I couldnt catch him to ask what exhaust he had. (camo painted on air in south Florida with a Thule box).

I want to also chip my car at the same time but for the V6 what could I do? Supercharger is also out of the question hahaha.

Leave it stock... nothing gives you any sane amount of HP to $$ on the V6

Fairly off topic, but why are the V6's so hard to get anything out of?

    a) its harder in the first place
    b) most people don't want worse mileage
    c) they are somewhat rarer (in so much as there were at least 6 other models with the 1.8T)

So becasue of that, companies just don't really focus on them when it comes to performance.
