Thread: 4 bent valves!

  1. 08-30-2012 09:31 PM #1
Ok i need some help i have a 2002 Golf GL has about 216000km it was about time for a timing belt change and watwr pump etc. Took it to a local shop got everything done ( i left them the car for a week while i was on vacation so that everything can be done when i come back). Picked up the car 2 days later check engine comes up the next day the car is dead and i am stuck on he side of the highway. Got the car back to the shop they couldnt figure out for 2 days what was wrong with it. After 3 days they took the head apart amd sent it elsewhere for diagnostic. Today 4th day they got the head back and they are saying i have 4 bent valves. They also said that the timing belt that they put up is perfectly straight and bla bla how they are baffled at how this happened. What do you think did the timing belt slip or the water pump siezed? I think they did a ****y job and are expecting me to pay for it again. Any input is appreciated you. How else could I have bent all 4 valves?

It ran when you brought it in, and it ran when you drove it away, right?

They screwed up. The belt probably flew off while you were driving. The reason why is anyone's guess, can't determine that without seeing the car. They should cover it though.

Yes car worked when i dropped it off and when i picked it up. I just dont like how they are saying they have no idea how this could have happened. I am sure they do they just dont want to admit it.

As long as they fix it, the reasons are really a non-issue.

They weaseled out and charged me 1000$ i knew it. Best part was he told me that he already told me it was going to be that much never talked to him about money or anything. Thanks for the info i am going to fight it in small claims.

Check your timing belt tensioner pulley and the stud it mounts on. Mine seized up , bent the stud and bored the hole it screws into on the head. Figured this out after $2600 worth of headwork.
