    Hey all,

the ac on my car has been giving me a few problems lately. As i am driving with the ac on (doesnt seem to matter which setting, temperature, or speed i am traveling) climatronic btw, all of the sudden it will stop blowing cold air. therefore the compressor is not running.

this has only happened twice, the first time, i turned off the ac, back on, and the same result, but once i turned the car off, and back on. it was working normally.

The second time the compressor stopped, i just left the fan running, and after about 5 minutes, it turned back on again.

Sounds like maybe the clutch slipping on the compressor? maybe the belt? It is not low on freon although it could probably use a recharge after the summer we have had, and is intermittent (only happened twice thus far).

any thoughts what to look for? I have tried to diagnose in the driveway, but i cannot seem to replicate the problem.

    Thanks.

Probably the compressor clutch going out. You can put power and ground to the two wires going to the compressor and see if it engages. It should cllick. My guess is it doesnt. You can replace just the clutch. I have done it with a kit i bought off ebay. couldnt find just the clutch anywhere else.

That is what I thought at first as well. Do you know by chance if the 12v/24v ac compressors are the same? There is one for sale here locally and instead of trying to change just the clutch, i might just want to change the entire compressor.

Any other trouble shooting advise? Since it is only intermittent, replicating the problem, even with the above mentioned technique, may not help.
