Thread: Rearview Mirror

  1. 08-31-2012 03:09 PM #1
    Hey guys,
New to the forum. I have an '04 BMP GLI-will make another post with pics/mod list, etc.

My rearview mirror fell off randomly the other day. I think it is due to the heat we're having right now. I did use the search tool and found stuff about the same ****ty adhesive I have already tried to re-attach it with. The only thing left on my windshield is the black circle that the mirror is suppose to line up with. The mirror and the mounting arm-thing are attached together- which is making it a lot heavier thus causing the adhesive to fail (I think).

Is there any other adhesive that I can try to use to fix this problem?

    Thanks!

Any autoparts store sells rearview window adhesive. You need to separate the mirror from the arm so the glue isnt trying to set with all that weight on it. When i put mine on I glued the base to the mirror on and let it sit over night because the heat will mess up the glue as well. In the morning i just attached the mirror to the base and its given me no trouble sense.

If I recall, our mirrors aren't glued on, and the mounting pad on the windshield is part of it the window, not glued on.. But it's been a while... The little spring clips in the arm may have become worn, allowing the mirror to fall off.

How do I go about separating them? I haven't taken that good of a look at it honestly, but if anyone has a quick method, I'd really appreciate it! Gotta get this done so I can get rid of the infamous relay clicking and FSU problem :/

Pretty sure to seperate the mirror from the arm you just turn the mirror 90 degrees and pull them apart.
