OP also has more than one car, and said he would probably be getting a 4 door sedan IN ADDITION to the ST:

So if he NEEDS a 4door, he'd HAVE one in addition to the hatch.

So again, at $24k, the ST is a great buy. For $34k, not so much, At $29k, as a second car, it's not necessarily a better performance deal than a Mustang, though apparently to this little 'tard, only douchebags would like/drive those.

I even LIKE the ST, but the moment he was an insulting assclown, he lost all my support for buying one.
I made a thread about a 4 door hot hatch. Anywhere did I ask, " Gee guys how does this compare to a 2 door RWD pony car?" because I don't think I did

And yes when I hear a mustang on the road and I see the driver its a douche strong arming the wheel with spiked hair, sleeveless shirt, with tribal rats blasting Nickelback 98% of the time. If you can stereotype VW kids as being flannel wearing, skinny jean rocking, fitted hat wearing hipsters, why can't I do the same to mustang bros?

Yes I'm trying to pick up a a4/s4 Avant for the soon to be family, and have a little 4 door fwd rocket made by Ford! I.was just shocked at what my dealer was trying to analize me for

I did miss that... I just had D Stock in my mind, which is where the Mustang V6 is categorized, so that's why I made the comment about the Mini being the better weapon.

If performance was the only thing that mattered, you're probably right, but you have to take my comments about the idea of a Focus ST "Performance Package" in the context of my other comments, including my mention of the uselessness of the Mustang's back seat and lack of 4 doors. I love the Mustang, and it's a TON of performance car for the money, especially the GT and Boss 302, but for someone who needs a car with 4 doors and a functional back seat for kiddos (like I do), a Performance Package ST would get my coin before a GT or Boss no matter how big the performance differences or how miniscule the price difference. But your point is well taken... if practicality and/or efficiency weren't concerns, the Mustang should definitely be high on the list.

At $24k loaded it would make some sense. The base GT starts at $27k, so a $34k Focus is stupid.

Some day you guys who a defending the Focus over the Mustang for the same price will see how silly you sound.
Comparing MSRP to MSRP, a base GT will always cost more than a loaded ST. Anyone who pays any more than MSRP need not apply to this comparison.

Some day, you will realize you are making a completely false statement and will see how silly you sound.

    Build and Price at Ford.com

Ford Focus ST3 with Moonroof is $29,825.
Ford Mustang GT with ZERO option packages is 31,095.

Don't believe me? Go build it for yourself.

A mustang is an entirely different car than a Focus. A focus is practical, a Mustang isn't. A focus is also much cheaper in gas.

I'm seriously considering trading my 2011 GT for a 2013 ST. I'm assuming that will cause several heads to explode based on the conversations in this thread.

veloster is cool, love the tech in it and for the price it can't be beat, but so everyone knows my bro-in-law has a standard and he says when the hatch it open and say it just rained, water WILL be going into your backseats and trunk area. bad engineering there. keep that in mind.

Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. A normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

Are there any solid tests / reviews of the ST yet? I've found a few first drives, but no one has actual performance results yet.

Surprising, given these are already on dealer lots, I noticed my local dealer has 3 in stock already with many more coming (awaiting delivery). I think I'll have to go check one out. ~28k for the Recaro and HIDS etc. seems a bit steep for the class of car, but its as close as we'll get to a cheaper Golf R.

Any info on tuning potential for these yet?

With equivalent options, the GTI will run you $30,600.

Yea, I'm just not liking how Ford has structured the options. You have to get the 202A equipment group for $4435 to get the full leather recaros, heated seats, HIDs and LED DRL's (but it also includes the Nav, which is a $900 standalone option). I could do without the Nav, but want all the other stuff. I haven't found a dealer car yet that just has 202A group, instead they are all marking up the base with the moonroof and nav which only comes out $500 short of the next level which is a silly buy.

Came across an ST last night while driving home on a long, winding desert road between Las Vegas and my subdivision in a neighboring city. It had a lit-up LED license plate frame and a vanity plate that said something like "Ford ST." It was dark-colored (I couldn't tell the exact color because it was pitch black out). The guy kept revving on me (while we were driving), then accelarating past me, then hitting the brakes, then revving on me again.

I will try not to judge all ST owners by my first experience. But this car might become the next Neon SRT-4.

Also, I may or may not have gotten fed up with him and hammered the gas on my car to ultimately leave him far, far behind in my dust.

The honest truth about Ford is they make **** product and they could care less about there damn customer. I made the mistake of buying 2011 Ford Fusion 32,xxx miles the damn transmission went . Under warranty right? BS - You pay for the labor and some parts it would have cost 1800 to fix. I called there customer service and all the rep said is "I'm sorry". Really sorry burn hell ford. I took the fusion and the wife's focus 2012 and trade them both on VW's never drive an american POS again!

You might want to read some of the horror stories on here about VoA customer service and dealer crap before saying that...
I love cars, but the problem is they are like schroedinger's hobby. They're always in a quantum superstate of being both awesome and a huge waste of time and money... until observation momentarily forces them into one state or another.

Nice, so that goes in line with what some of the reviewers are saying about the Ford 0-60 estimate being very conservative.

Tuning potential on these looks pretty good, going by what Super Chips / Bluefin has been doing in the UK. The old MK1 225hp ST was good for +50bhp on a tune alone, +100 with stage 3 (upgraded intercooler, decat/high-flow cat). This is probably closer to the Golf R performance wise than the MS3 or WRX, so that makes it even a sweeter deal.

I've heard the Recaro seats are amazing.

I find it hilarious we are questioning Ford reliability on a VW/Audi forum. At least if it breaks, it won't be $3k to fix.

Bought my VW used with the warranty 2 years or 24,000 miles. I felt like the brakes where alittle soft took it in to my VW dealer and they replaced all the brake pads on the car. Volkswagen of america has amazing customer service! Thanks VW for standing behind your car after they are sold!!!!!! Unlike ford And VOA called me and asked how my service experience had been. Couldn't ask for more!

PS - Have you noticed all the problem with Ford products go google Ford fusion bad transmission! Oh and look at all the fords being recalled!

On 2012 models with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, the metal housing of the fuel line's pulse damper may crack, causing fuel odors, leakage, and potentially a fire.- GREAT JOB FORD!!!!

Oh and yes i was aware of GM and ford making the transmission after i bought the POS and i couldn't care less . The damn car still says FORD i guess i should have took the POS to a chevy dealer... Its ok Ford that you make ****ty cars we will just blame another company!

So, in other words, successfully trolled?

Ya I'm a loyal VAG fan, but I've been f*cked over a few times by VWOA myself. 1800 for a new trans is cheap. Try 3800 plus labor for a new mkv 5 speed made of glass.

It's also less prone to blow up like a ms3 and wrx! I think its safe to estimate 300whp on full bolt ons tuned of course. Stage 3 will always involve a larger turbo in my eyes.

Yes its cheap for a transmission and im sure there's been bad things with VOA. But the damn car only had 32,000 miles on it and its under warranty i shouldn't have to pay 1800 cause you got with people from GM and made a ****ty transmission. < Just saying , i have owned many fords trucks/cars . And there cars don't even compare to a VW. Ford is just junk and we are seeing that with all there problems and recalls lately. They even sent letter to customer saying they where looking into problems with this transmission and we should come in and get the ECU reprogram by are local dealer which i did do, got to my local dealer and they told me it was already done before i bought it! All i can say is we are very pleased with the level of service from VOA and the performance of are VW's and i will never buy a ford again and will tell anyone how big of pos they are. < Just my thoughts

Driving a VW is like having sex ,You just have to find the right curves and floor it and you will always have a hell of time.

So you paid for a transmission replacement while your car was under warranty? Did you also pay your friendly local Nigerian Prince the transfer fee for the ass raping jackpot?

i have been treated way better by vag than ford, although maybe a big part is the particular dealer, which in my caseripped me off pretty good on out of warranty work and that has not happened w/ vw

Lol seriously .....thats why ford is ranked higher on quality survey and volkswagen in the bottom, my 2007 has a nice electric steering that likes to turn off once the temperature goes over 80 degrees, took it to the dealer $1900 to replace the rack , my hand break line snapped they charged me $600 to fix , my exterior lights burn out once in every 3 months , my a/c making weird noises i don't want to ask how much that cost to fix , my backseat cup holders fell a part , my door handle cover is peeling , my car is paid off so i don't really care anymore
