Really? Did it have the Recaros? If not, the base model interior is a bit more modest compared to the upgrades of the ST2 and ST3, especially if it didn't have the larger 7" screen for the nav upgrade.

Looking at the inferior pics, I just can't stomach the color inserts in the seats. Looks very cheap and ebayish to me.
    Black on black please

They do look better in person, but yeah, that's a popular criticism. I will say that the "Smoke Storm" grey inserts are pretty conservative and not at all objectionable. It is neat that you can order whatever inserts with whatever exterior color you want... Race Red exterior with Tangerine Sceam interior anyone?

The all black recaro's are a win I've been checking out some you tube clips of exhaust notes. This thing sounds good with the borla & milltek. I would def do a 3" tbe every gti I owned has got one I believe in letting a turbo'd car breathe.

Yup, the ST2 i sat in was blue exterior, and had the grey seat inserts, and my wife and i both thought they looked really good. And the interior of the ST2 does look much better than the ST1 because of the display.

it may have been the base model. I thought the Focus would have the fully MyTouch dash...even the gauges and stuff.

Base gets the same gauge pod and auxiliary gauges, but the center stack is less "techie" and more basic. Looks like this:

On a serious note, the dash, upper door panels, and all that stuff have a nice soft-touch quality to them, but there is a lot of hard plastic in that center stack. The button array on that dash is pretty out of hand though... this is one of the places that VW has always excelled comparatively.

As long as the upper dash surround is soft touch then the ST has no more hard plastics than the GTI.

What about it felt 'cheap'? The top line model felt fine for $30K.

    Your BMW matches your attitude.

Got a problem with me bringing up a direct ST competitor?

the GTI/R kinda disappoints me in the center console area. the "high end" nav is no where near the screen size of the ST or last gen MKV. it's cheaper.

I went to go look at the new fusion and St in person the other day and they are both very nice. I like the St a lot, especially the Recaro seats and larger mytouch screen. However they had a $5k market adjustment markup that the sales person said was non-negotiable.

Coming from a Focus owner with that center stack - It's really not that bad. I don't even use it much, as Sync takes care of everything. It looks good lit up at night too.

I also love buttons. So there's that.

    Summing this thread up:

    - Focus ST's don't cost $34k

    - If you have $34k and you want a turbo AWD car, you should buy an Evo.

    - If you have less than $34k and you want a turbo AWD car, you should buy a used Evo.

P.S. Dash plastic discussions are for sandy vaginas. I'm going to go drive my Mustang now.

I do too. I spent time with the touch system and its frustrating to say the least. I also like the buttons. What people fail to comprehend is that you can control all of your electronics through the Sync system. USB, aux, and phone can all be controlled through this stack. I often dial numbers through the stack. When I get in the car, the first thing I do is throw my phone into the glove box.
You think you hate it now. Wait til you drive it.

I still would rather have the option of an aftermarket headunit that does the same thing for $130, and doesn't look like the plastic dash of crap.

As audio and electronics integration becomes more and more common, youre going to have a tough time with that one. If you get the tough system, you wont be able to do that either. Not to mention that by swapping this stuff out, you are going to be losing the Sync system, which is a huge selling point.

Right, because no other manufacture has managed to integrate, phone, usb and ipod controls into their oem units and not make it look like spaceship crap, Sync is just that good....

Like I said give me an aftermarket headunit over this plastic dash of crap.

Because nothing says "style" and "design" like a rectangular radio awkwardly crammed into the dash, covered in tiny chiclet buttons and a cheesy animated 14-segment LCD display.

I actually like the upgraded head unit on the higher range models the screen is a lot bigger and it has a different button layout. I'd never buy that base crap.

I honestly would rather look at this, than a giant mound of plastic crap.

Not to mention, other oem units look better than Ford's.

You forgot that the GTI is better only because the back seats have 2" more leg room. Everything else the ST does better
