the GTI/R kinda disappoints me in the center console area. the "high end" nav is no where near the screen size of the ST or last gen MKV. it's cheaper.

I went to go look at the new fusion and St in person the other day and they are both very nice. I like the St a lot, especially the Recaro seats and larger mytouch screen. However they had a $5k market adjustment markup that the sales person said was non-negotiable.

Coming from a Focus owner with that center stack - It's really not that bad. I don't even use it much, as Sync takes care of everything. It looks good lit up at night too.

I also love buttons. So there's that.

      Summing this thread up:

      - Focus ST's don't cost $34k

      - If you have $34k and you want a turbo AWD car, you should buy an Evo.

      - If you have less than $34k and you want a turbo AWD car, you should buy a used Evo.

P.S. Dash plastic discussions are for sandy vaginas. I'm going to go drive my Mustang now.

The dash is soft touch so dont worry your VW loving head.

I do too. I spent time with the touch system and its frustrating to say the least. I also like the buttons. What people fail to comprehend is that you can control all of your electronics through the Sync system. USB, aux, and phone can all be controlled through this stack. I often dial numbers through the stack. When I get in the car, the first thing I do is throw my phone into the glove box.

I still would rather have the option of an aftermarket headunit that does the same thing for $130, and doesn't look like the plastic dash of crap.

As audio and electronics integration becomes more and more common, youre going to have a tough time with that one. If you get the tough system, you wont be able to do that either. Not to mention that by swapping this stuff out, you are going to be losing the Sync system, which is a huge selling point.

Right, because no other manufacture has managed to integrate, phone, usb and ipod controls into their oem units and not make it look like spaceship crap, Sync is just that good....

Like I said give me an aftermarket headunit over this plastic dash of crap.

Because nothing says "style" and "design" like a rectangular radio awkwardly crammed into the dash, covered in tiny chiclet buttons and a cheesy animated 14-segment LCD display.

I actually like the upgraded head unit on the higher range models the screen is a lot bigger and it has a different button layout. I'd never buy that base crap.

I honestly would rather look at this, than a giant mound of plastic crap.

Not to mention, other oem units look better than Ford's.

You forgot that the GTI is better only because the back seats have 2" more leg room. Everything else the ST does better

The stack fits the rest of the interior IMO. It took a few weeks for me to fully warm up to it, but it works well aesthetically and ergonomically.

It sounds like you're more predisposed to either as conservative of style as possible, or are missing the point that this level of new-age styling is in a BUDGET LEVEL FOCUS.

Let's take a look at other budget model OEM stacks, shall we?

      Corolla:

Wow. About as drab as you can get. Based on looks alone, it wouldn't surprise me that the only audio that comes out of this thing is a funeral dirge or the Best of Television Static compilation. Functional? Yes. Stylish? Sure, if you consider a wooden spoon fashionable. I absolutely love the LCD readout they stole from an old Texas Instruments calculator.

      Civic:

Wait, that's it? That's the radio? I have more options on my blender. It looks like they took this from a piece of **** shelf stereo you bought for $44.99 at Walmart. Don't go too crazy Honda! You don't want to have people think your cars are edgy and stylish! Oh wait, you already have that god-awful tach cluster..

      Golf:

The ****, VW? Did you steal this idea from those Zony cassette/CD player radios you get as door prizes at the local bingo hall? Did you do this on purpose to get people to upgrade packages? I love the Indiglo readout though. Very 1990's.

      Rio:

HAHAHAahahah.. ahhh.. Woo.. oh.. OHHH... That IS your radio? ****, sorry..

It needs to be. Plastic that gets touched often shouldnt be fancy honestly. YOu ever seen the fancy coating VW puts on their switches and knobs after a year or two of interaction? Its peeling and falling apart.

Agreed, I test drove an A6 and walked away because of all the peeling buttons. My A4 is not too bad, but the radio tuner knob, and arm rest handle are both peeling. It's like some rubbery paint on the hard plastic, that does not stick to it all that well.

FWIW, the kia one is my favorite out of the ones pictured. I don't think any of them are particularly bad. The honda one looks cheap though.

This looks different than mine, though maybe that is a GTI thing...

So in other words, it's durable and hard-wearing, which it should be unless I'm resting my hands on it for any extended period? Gotcha. Cool.

Of course it did. It's based on a Focus that starts at $17k, and they spent their ST development dollars on making it go around a corner like a molested macaque. The interior is fine for a hot hatch. And not to put too fine a point on it, this is an economy hatch with a hilarious engine and a suspension tune, not a 3-series.

I've seen a couple. It was fairly extroverted, yeah. But then, this is an age of extroverted styling. It's certainly no more ornamented than your average BMW.
