So VWoA doesn't want to bring I've the "new" scirocco. Because they don't think it will sell enough. How ever if I remember correctly in the late 70's when vw opened the westmoreland plant in PA. They made gas and diesel
Versions of the mk1 caddy and rabbit
Due to the gas crisis then. Which oddly enough is kind of happening in America now. So why the hell don't the just make it a TDI Rocco and all is well in the world.

The fear is losing gti sales in the states, gti has made itself into the king of hatches here they don't want to lose that market from people buying Rocco's

Trust me if they came I would get one on a heartbeat and I don't care for the logic but it is what it is...

And the Jett's tdi and golf tdi sell well enough here to not have to bring in another small tdi

    Rebel!!

Then VW should (via marketing?) differentiate the Scirocco from the GTI. Sell it as more of a sports coupe - something VW does not offer in the US (Beetle and Eos don't count) - instead of a "hot hatch."

Maybe offer different colors, wheels, interior goodies, etc. too.

It'll be a tough sell since it's shaped like a hatchback...

The GTI has a big presence in North America. IMO, the Scirocco looks way better than the GTI and will definitely kill GTI sales if it comes to the West.

I do wish it'd come here though...

Just so you all know, there are two diesel engines for the Scirocco. One 140hp (1.9TDi) and one 170hp (2.0TDI) if I'm not completely wrong...

For the US, they really should make the Golf and GTI exclusively a five-door, and then the Scirocco could be the three-door hatch. I really think it would work.

I really want a new Scirocco! Bring it over, it'll sell like crazy.
    Shut up, Farva.

I'm losing faith in the newer vw's, if VWoA brought this over my faith would definitely come back. They should do at least a limited number, perhaps 5000.

I do remember some time back that the head honcho, I think his name is Browning,
also wanted the Scirocco to come here. He said, at the earliest, it would have to be
after the 'new build cycle' ........whatever that means?

They could release it as a "World" car. For example the 2013 Focus ST is a "World" car, meaning it went on sale in every car market interested. Released everywhere at once. I also think instead of releasing another 5,000 2013 Golf R's(which half the 2012's didn't sell) they should have released 5,000 Roccos

To reach the lofty sales goals that Browning says VW wants by 2018, means they will
have to bring an array of new models to the U.S.. He claims that if the economy hadn't
'tanked' in the U.S. so badly back in 2008, the Scirocco would already be here. If they
are waiting for a new 'updated look' Scirocco before they commit to the U.S., it could
be about 2-3 years from now. The Scirocco R has similar hp to the Golf R but is a
front-wheel drive car and not an AWD like the Golf R.. If you play around and build one
at the VW-UK site, the car would translate to about $55,000 in USD. That would be way
higher than a Golf R, which tops out at about $38,000......but damn! What a good looking car!

We must continue to make noise in the US. I won't buy a golf, although I like them a lot. I would buy a scirocco but then again I'm biased.

What are you talking about? The ST is available worldwide, the Fiesta ST is being released in the spring- again worldwide. Only reason the RS never came was Ford would have never sold any of them, who would pay 50kUSD for a Focus

Am told that VW is thinking about bringing the Phaeton to America....again!
I guess they are impressed with how Hyundai has undercut the luxury market
price points and feel that the 'luxury Phaeton' will carve out their piece of that
luxury pie if they come in not too much higher than the 'top of the line' Hyundai's.
I don't care what amount of GTI's they sell in their two-door version, Scirocco would
blow them away, even at a higher price point. They can still offer their 4 door 'hatch's',
which has its place firmly cemented here in the U.S., but give the true VW enthusiasts
the car they have been salivating over for years. I remember reading where HPA in
Canada retrofitted a couple of Scirocco's with AWD for on-track racing only. I can
just imagine how a Scirocco R with AWD would go over here.

Yes. I also heard the Phaeton is coming back. Also yes, VW should offer 5 door Golfs, release the scirocco as a 3 door with the TSI motor, if not that then use the small 4 cylinder they have and go after the Veloster market. Keep the Golf R as the top tier model offered in 3 and 5 door.

It's a shame we don't get the sciroccos. Since Americans are starting to buy smaller cars because of the gas prices, I think the scirocco would do well in the states. Thankfully the Phaeton is coming back and I hope VW starts making more TDI versions of their current models. Honestly if the scirocco was available in the states, I wouldve brought that over my current CC. I think it's a nice little car that is better than the crappy American competitors.

Lies! here i'll quote vwoa! "We've worked so hard to achieve the gti where it is today, bringing the scirocco over would destroy the sale's we've worked so hard to achive"

considering everinytime i bring my '84 out i have and older fella ask "Is that a scirocco?!" the reply that was one of their first cars... i think the would well surpass their gti which has signifigant understeer and body roll compared to the scirocco.

On a side note.... Hpa's 550whp awd mk3 Rocco only runs 13.1's in the qtr... My 86 12v vr6 fwd rocc will prob bend that thing over and monkey fuk it. At well under 10k compared to 65k plus... That's just sad

I'm done with newer VW's until they decide to step forward. They refuse to bring the Scirocco, Polo, Caddy, Up, Amarok, etc to the US. They also taunt us with many different concept cars they NEVER intend on producing (Bulli, Microbus, Bluesport, etc). I guess the only way they will listen if we talk with our wallets. If my next new car is not a new Scirocco, then it will NOT be a new VW. Many other car manufacturers are starting to sell comparable cars (Volvo C30, Lexus CT, etc). If VW doesn't want my money, someone else will get it.

  23. 03-20-2013 12:35 AM #23
If VW is concerned about market share (selling the most doesn't a great car company make as GM can attest) they should bring the Scirocco over here. To me it looks quite different than the GTI which is a really great car, which means it could entice a different part of the market. Depending on performance, it looks more like a TT class than a hatchback to me. VW, you'll never know until you try.

Ya. The polo is supposedly coming in the next year or two to fight with the Fiesta ST(rumor)

Amarok is to expensive to compete with Americas heavy pickup hitters like Ford and Ram.

Same thing here, I won't buy a new VW. They got my money with the Mkv and that's it.

So the April 1 print edition of AutoWeek has an article called "SHOOTING FOR THE SCIROCCO - VW ponders next generation for US market", with renderings (that I assume are fake) for the next gen car.

The article claims VW US chief Jonathan Browning says "To me, that's a missing piece of the jigsaw in the US".

The article is not on the AutoWeek website that I can find.

April fools joke or not, I SERIOUSLY want the car in the renderings (which are credited to "Avarvarii").

Not a joke. Browning had said and made it known that he wants the Scirocco here in the US, and has also shared that of the US economy wouldn't have tanked in 2008 we would have had the 3rd gen here already.

If we do get it I believe it will be a TDI replacing the Golf TDI.

Yeah, I think that their sales would be tanking looking at that article. The beautiful styling of the car is now gone.
