I didn't like the MKV when it came out. I love it now (biased, yes). I did like the MKVI when it came out (Golf not Jetta), and still do. It looked like the MKV but... fixed a bit.

The 7 doesn't look that fundementally different from the 6, which is good, but it should be a better car mechanically being lighter and more efficient. That would be enough reason to tempt a switch in 2-3 years' time...

I quite like the design. A worthy successor.

Looks like an MKIV at the rear. Boxy compared to the MKV & MKVI

Although, like the Jetta the lower trim levels of the new Golf will have a torsion-beam rear suspension while the rest will get the multi-link.

As a Mk6 owner, I don't feel like this makes my vehicle look outdated.

Seems to be a very safe evolution.

I've never paid that much attention to the shape of that C-pillar to rear wheel arch ">" shape, but that picture made it look like its a main trait for a "Golf"...

I quite like the MkVII's C-pillar shape -- just like the MkIV.

Agreed there, it's because it's thick, and the bottom corner of the C pillar window is angled, not round like in the MK5 & 6.

The MKV and MKVI pictured are 2 door versions, which is why their rears don't match the design language.

    Keep that in mind people.

I'd be very surprised if that were correct.

I don't thing the new A3 has them. With it being on the same platform and close to same dimensions I would have thought they could have created a design without them. I would have rather them have put the mirrors there.

Overall I think it looks good and I look forward to it being a little bigger but still lighter.

Both have rear door lines down the quarter panels. I think they ARE actually the 4-door variety.

You can pretty easily see the door lines and the rear window split..

You can even see the line for the corner glass on the rear door window in that pics...those are definitely 4 doors...

The mkvi fixed most the goofy issues I had with the mkv styling: the front end and rear using that ugly textured bottom half.

Still not sure what to think on the mk7, will wait until I see the GTI and golf R. Interested in seeing a two door.

The one thing that bugs the hell out of me about the bumper is the same thing that erked me about the TT-S:

Either connect the two accent lines, or don't. Stopping 9/10s of the way just looks odd to me.

I hope the 2 door version have the pop-open rear window like minivans and BMW coupes...thats definitely one of the annoying thing I find on the current car...buffeting in the car is terrible with the windows down on the 2 door...

I highly doubt it since VW has been using bonded side glass as a structural element for a while now.
