More evolution than revolution....was hoping for something better....not an evolution of MK5 to MK6 to MK7....

i loved the mk6 why was it so short lived? any way this doesnt look bad either, the interior is real nice, but i dont get the short life span of the 6 while other generations went on for at least 5.5 years from what i understand

The 2 door is going to be interesting. I'm trying to picture what the side view of the 2 door is going to look like with that new longer hood.

Front and side views are nice. The rear: not so much. Not really feeling the taillights.

I am not liking the blue. The silver however, looks really good. I expect the GTI and R will exploit some of the interesting body features, which appear somewhat subdued in this model.

I'd like to see a picture of it next to an MK6 to see how much the proportions have changed. The amount sounds subtle but could be very noticeable next to the last gen.

OK - so I like the looks. The fender flares in the back are subtle but they'll look great on the GTI.
I'm pumped about the lighter weight but the 222hp that I'm reading in most articles is a real let down. VW could dominate the hot hatch market with more power.

Glad VW is back to angling the dash to the driver.

Looks great. Very clean and well-resolved.
Evolutionary, but that's okay with me because I love the MkVI design.

The big question is... What will come here to the U.S.? Are we gonna get the big screw job that we normally do? Like giving us huge wheel gaps, cut out great tech, and strip out all the great options that the european market will get. I really hope that VW changes that here in the states this time around.

Meh, don't know what to think of it. The c pillar is an definite improvement over the MK6, but that's about it. The tail lights look good from the side, but weird from behind. The headlights are meh. They should have kept them rounded; they were a signature trait of the Golf.
Hard to really judge the overall look of the car, though, since these images have the **** photoshopped out of them.
edit: just found some real life pics; looks much better.

I like it and some version of this will likely be my next car.
Make mine a 2.0 TDI (with the next generation engine that doesn't have the issues that the Mk6 has had!) Highline 6-speed manual.

Very nice evolution to the car. Love the sharper design lines and much more athletic look! Home run in my opinion.

Just keep in mind guys that this is just a 4-door Golf similar to this:

We still haven't seen the two-door let alone the GTI yet.![]()

So I've got maybe a year and half before I can get my GTD here in the US? And it will look like this?
I can work with that.
#33
let me guess... no LED tail, ugly headlights with yellow side markers, no euro cup holder what else am I missing?
