Back story is that while I was slowly getting my 78 Rabbit together, the process of getting items back from the plater and onto the car was a slow and prolonged task (8-10 year build). Years passed and I started to forget what it was to actually drive one of these beauties. While I still had dibs on a Bali Green Rabbit I was getting tired of waiting so I asked the previous owner of the Bali Green (VW89) Josh if he had any leads. Josh was in contact with me and was passing along a few nice cars in his area and had shared a listing on CL of a car that he was interested in. It was in Seattle at the actual dealer where I purchased my MKIV R32 years before. Since I lived on the east coast, I wanted to make sure that one of us (Josh or myself) had "dibs" on this car so I made a call and placed a deposit on the car. I let Josh know I had done so & if he wanted the car, he could definitely have it. I am not 100% on the exact reason he gave, but he didnt buy the car - I did.
I flew into Seattle a few weeks later to visit a few old friends for Christmas and immediately got a ride to the dealer and finalized the transaction. During this week I drove the car all over Seattle. What a great way to get around town and not having to rent a car I thought. Before I left Seattle I dropped the car off at Fine Tuning Performance, and later had Simon (2mAn) drop off the tuned up car to a DAS terminal to be shipped out east.
Story goes that the original owner (a German woman by the name of Ute) bought this car when she moved to Washington state. She had traded the car in for a new Jetta at Carter VW.
I am the second owner of this car.
Had Chris @Fine Tuning in Seattle WA completely go through the car before I shipped this car out east.
Shipped out to MA (when I lived out in Western MA) & tossed some coils & wheels on it.
Car died, thought the fuel pump took a dump, it was the points that failed. Installed a Pertronix ignitor which solved the issue.
Drove it around for a bit, enjoyed the hell out of it. Took it to New England Dustoff and won first place in the MK1/A1 category. Took it to MK1 Madness and won best of show and first place Rabbit.
Had a "friend" do some work on the car that was completely unacceptable. Not wanting to half-arse anything, I brought it in to RMA (R.Miller Autobody) for a full respray and all the rock chips and dings were removed.
Brand new fuse box (171941813B 171941821B 811941813 AKA Fuse Box B) was replaced as the original one died. No water was found around the fuse box, it was just dead.
