Truth is that Apple needs Samsung more the Samsung needs Apple.

I think this is true for this release and possibly the next as Apple is still using Samsung for their large orders. There's no other chip maker that can produce 28nm reliably, fast, and cheaper than Samsung at the moment.
TSMC, I wouldn't depend on them after they messed up so many Nvidia chip orders in the past that caused massive recalls.
In fact, Samsung built the Texas factory specifically for taking Apple orders.

Have they not learn from having a non-established product launch exclusively on only one carrier.

I think I'm going to hold out for awhile as well. I want a matte grey on Verizon please. Yesterday.
#47
^the market was a lot less crowded way back when though.
^^totally, grey is the one i was hoping for.
#48
More crowded if you ask me. Every manufacturer had their own OS just about. RIM had its, iphone had ios, some used WM6, some used Palm, symbian....etc. I guess that could have made it easier for apple, not sure. Huge difference in the industry in just 5 years, thats for sure.

Looks like Verizon will get a poverty 810. I really would like to know the exclusivity date on the 920 with AT&T. Maybe if I keep saying this, someone will tell me...
#51
Wait, the 810 is going to T-Mobile. The "Atlas" will be on Verizon.
#52
Atlas still looks like a low end device. Looks like a 610 which isn't too bad actually.

as a verizon customer and nokia fan, there is no way I'd even consider that Atlas thing, even in the absence of any other nokia/verizon entry. looks like something you'd get for your teenager

Im with ya. I really don't want them to botch this launch, Nokia please look at ALL of your competitors who release successful smartphones and see that they have offerings for ALL carriers. There is really no reason to not do this anymore. Doesn't Qualcomm offer a pentaband chip that works on all networks. Regardless if thats true or not there is no reason to not at least offer it. Im sure there are plenty of Nokia fans out there that would love to have the Finnish brands' latest and greatest smartphone to compete with iOS & Android (the only 2 that mean anything). I like a many people started out with a Nokia phone (my first was a TDMA one!) and I loved their design language.
C'Mon Nokia, don't F this up!
Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. A normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

Rumored 6 month exclusive on AT&T. I may switch over, haven't decided yet. I'm definitely getting this phone.

Came here to post about how I just pre-ordered a red Lumia 920 through Best Buy
$165 with overnight shipping and a 2-year AT&T contract![]()

I'm considering dropping Verizon to get the 920 with AT&T... I'm still using an iPhone 4 and I'm sick of everything Apple.
There's still a lot of rumors that its coming to Verizon in November though... I'll hold out until Christmas.

Everything I have read has said that the 920 will be exclusive to a single carrier in each region. Only on ATT in usa, rogers in canada, dont remember the euro ones or australia, or any of the others.

So does this phone have apps like an iPhone or Droid you can download and add to the screen?
I'm just confused as the spec page makes no mention of apps.

still looks like no nokia 920 lumia for verizon at launch, and I just read that its release might be pushed back on AT+T, however the suspiciously similar looking and performing HTC 8x is coming to Verizon at roughly the same time. I might go with this, don't wait around for the 920 exclusivity to expire, and don't want to switch carriers

The 8X is really a blow to Nokia. I've read a couple of reviews commenting on its unique shape setting apart it and Windows Phone 8 from iOS and Android, but in reality it's the Lumia line that first put out the unibody in that rectangular shape. Nokia hardware will blow away HTC's, in addition to the Nokia specific software (lenses mostly). I can't help but love the look of the HTC and especially it's very slim side profile ... with that said I'm still switching from Verizon to AT&T for the 920, whenever the hell it may release.
#68
Yeah, I see nothing unique in the 8x. I see the same quote everywhere even from MS. Besides color, what makes it a windows phone unique shape? Its a rectangle with rounded corners and tapered back. Maybe in hand its something remarkable. Will have to wait and see I guess.
920 has my vote right now. Ativ-s is a close second, but the camera of the 920 is just so far ahead.

The Ativ-S is a much lighter and thinner device than the 920. But again, the camera on the 920 is far ahead. The Samsung is a bit boring, they just took the same grey Samsung design they're using in many other of their phones. IMO the colorful designs of the HTC and Nokia offerings work much better with the UI's colorful tiles.

But I love the sleek industrial look of the Samsung. No offense to anyone that likes the bright colors, but in my opinion it makes the device look cheaper. I have not held one yet but I doubt the shiny plastic will make me feel like I am holding a high end device either. I love my aluminum Titan. The cold ungiving metal makes me feel like I am holding something of value. Also, it has hit ceramic tile a few times from 36" with barely a scratch.
I hope MSFT launches a VaporMag Surface phone in the next 6 months. That is what I will get. My upgrade is not available yet anyway.
