So yesterday I was changing my oil. Took the old oil filter out and forgot to put the new filter in just put the housing on. Filled the engine up with oil and as I am cleaning every thing up I realize my mistake. So I drain the oil and when I do instead of being a goldish color. Its just about as dirty as the old oil.

Question is. Is this a bad thing that my new oil is that dirty with out even starting the engine.
Any recommendations as to what todo to fix this if this is a problem will be appreciated.

Also there is only 51000 miles on the engine.

Nah - you just "cleaned" out more of the dirty oil with fresh oil.

It's why some people will do an oil flush and not just a change. Keep in mind that oil is viscous and adheres to the internal motor parts, dirty or not.

So you just flushed out more of that dirty oil.
