I just scanned the car and received this information. It's a 2003 VW GOLF 2.0l, about 90,000 miles. I just changed out the coolant temp sensor and took the car on a drive, the temp continued to rise so I headed home. Any ideas?

On a 1.8T at 90K that is almost guaranteed to be the plastic water pump impeller. You can feel it with the T. stat out of the block but at this point it wouldn't be worth removing it again if you are pulling the timing belt and water pump.
