Has there been any word that the US will even receive the 1.6 TDI?

Did VW ever release official mileage numbers for the Golf 7 TDI?
An article over at Germancarfans (Worldcarfans) states that the TDI 1.6 will get 73 MPG US! Even if that number drops a bit with the U.S. MPG testing, it's a huge leap forward.
This seems like a crazy number and I keep looking for soemthing official from VW. Anyone have anything solid?

Thought our market was receiving the updated 2.0 TDI by the time we get the VII...which would be awesome.

This was my thought too; Its close to the MK5/6 GTI specs in a diesel!

Hey, these are the official numbers for the 1.6 TDI. They result from the NEFZ (new European driving cycle) which is tested on a dyno under controlled conditions. Experience shows that you can get close to these numbers but it’s hard and not much fun. Always depends on your own driving profile and how good you are at driving economically. I converted them here: http://jumk.de/calc/verbrauch.shtml
5-speed manual:
city: 4.6 l/100km = 51.1 mpg
out of city/highway : 3.3 l/100km = 71.2 mpg
combined: 3.8 l/100km = 61.8 mpg
7-speed DSG:
city: 4.6 l/100km = 51.1 mpg
out of city/highway : 3.5 l/100km = 67.1 mpg
combined: 3.9 l/100km = 60.3 mpg
Lowest I managed on my daily commute (90% B-road, 10% city) to Wolfsburg in a mkVI with the 1.6 TDI (5-speed manual) was 3.8 l/100km or 62 mpg. It’s usually a bit more with the 7-speed DSG despite of its long 7th gear.
The mkVII should get lower than that with its reduced weight and engine start/stop. Getting near 70 mpg on a US-highway and 60-65 mph max should be possible.
But it doubt that the 1.6 TDI will make it over the pond. I guess you’ll get the 2.0 TDI, the Hybrid (will be introduced next year), 1.4 or 1.8 TSI (out of the new A3) and the 2.0 TSI (in the GTI).

According to the VW Germany website, the MT 2.0TDI gets 5.0/4.1/3.6 l/100km, or 47/57/65 mpg in the Euro cycle. Typically, Euro mixed is comparable to US highway - so that is considerably better than the MkVI. Even with start/stop, the city values are likely not achievable, especially with short blocks and short drives.
Really impressive numbers!![]()

I wish we would get the 1.6 and 2.0.
My dream:
Make the base Golf 'S' Model $15,900 with Torsion Beam and 2.Slow.
Add TDI Option for $2,800 on the base model.
Then start making an SE and SEL Trim with all 1.8T and TDI powerplants.
On the MK6 they screwed up by offering the Golf 2.5 de-contented with few options or trim levels.
Then they made the base TDI too nice and the price was near $24k.

Any updates on these TDI mpg numbers for US version 2014 MKVll?
I'm HIGHLY considering a 2013 MKVI TDI and wondering if I should wait...

Over here ' Whatcar? ' magazine do true mpg tests giving average fuel economy figures.
These are based over a distance of 50 miles of real UK roads rather than lab tests.
The Golf Mk7 TDI 2.0 (150 PS ) engined car achieved the equivalent of 65.1 miles per US gallon.
EDIT: The above figure should have read 45.1 miles per US gallon

I'm wondering how a US spec MKVII will compare with the current MKVI in terms of mpg.
