Sony STRDH520 or Onkyo 414 or other?

Looking for a nice sub $300 receiver to add to my home setup. I am running 2.1 but have the speakers to go to a 5.1 setup. With 2 young kids I don't care to either have my stuff out or need to spend a ton of money. From that I see these two units have good feed back for there price. I am differently not a audio head so for me this is just to watch movies and maybe some TV (football). Any input or suggestions would be great.

I will have a cable box, ps3 and a wii hooked up to the receiver. I know this sounds noobish but now that all my equipment is hdmi capable what is the best way to hook everything up? I would watch TV using the TV speakers but would like the option to turn on the surround sound for games and movies. The ps3 would be to play games and watch movies so always have the surround sound on.
