I'd spend that money building a car myself, but that's just me.

I have a bit of a hold up in my car choice,
first choice:
2002 jetta 1.8t
108K
gt28 turbo
racelands
stanced
r32 front end
porsche turbo twists
basic upgrades exhaust, intake, fmic etc
Second choice:
2000 jetta 12v vr6
110K
bagged
cam'd
gli skirts
powderd red sawblades
and the basics
I know the kid that built the 1.8t car and its a badass car, but my first car was a vr and i love them, plus i want bags. I need something that i can daily even in winter and idk how bags will hold up in the cold whether. so all opinions are welcome![]()

I think VR will last longer and be more reliable. Already having bags is a plus.

take the VR![]()

VR. I have a 1.8t but if I were in your shoes I would buy the VR in a heartbeat.

im leaning towards the vr already becasue of the bags but the 1.8t is steal at the price and i can always bag that in the future...

Bags will hold up just fine in winter, plenty of people on here daily their bagged vehicles year round.

its not like any of these cars are really ''built''
but i vote 12v![]()

Depends what you want.
If built right, the 1.8t is a sick car. You'll fall inlove with the power.
If your looking for power, go 1.8t. If you dont really care go vr.
It will most likely be cheaper to bag the 1.8t than to boost the vr to get it to match the 1.8t
That being said, I would buy a clean stock car and build it myself. Thats half the fun!![]()

It sounds like you keep trying to find the bright side when it comes to the 1.8t, buy it and be done with it.

i would love to build my own car but at the moment i dont have the money because of school. in the future i will build my own car but at the moment i have neither the time nor money so im just looking to buy an already nice car at a decent price. i had a vr before and nothing beats the sound of them and the bags is a plus. but the power of the 1.8t would be a blast and it is deffenitly a better looking car, my only worry on this one is the internals are still stock.

Why do you keep asking if you are trying to convince us the 1.8t is a better car? Its like you are checking in with us or something
. Buy what YOU want and NOT what the guys on the vortex tell you to buy.

Believe me...If it has wheels or an engine I can blow it up!

Well, I'd pick the car that is in better shape and prospectively would be the most reliable if it's going to be your new DD. Nothing that any of us can say will make up for one car being better than the other in terms of how they check out in person. They're MK4s with 100k+ miles. Clearly you can find a compelling reason to buy one over the other just in terms of the maintenance you'll be looking at over the next year or two.
That being said, I'm also from Lancaster, and will support either choice you make as a former 12v VR owner, and a current 1.8T owner.
#28
Who cares if you don't have money to build it. You really want it to be done in a matter of months?
I've had my VR like 2 1/2 years, all I've done is coils, wheels, exhaust, sideskirts, and a respray.
Just buy a stock one and go at your own pace
But, if you must pick one of those, like said above, pick the one that is in better shape.

go for the vr, simply because vr>1.8t and the 1.8t has a golf front end which is fugly
#30
neither. find one bone stock and unmolested. build from there. but yeah the vr is the much better choice
#31
do you put many miles on your car? MPG is something to consider these days.

If you keep talking about maintaining the big turbo in the 1.8 then don't buy it especially if you don't have the money to do so. Buy the VR
#35
In perspective to make 400 HP it will cost relatively the same price with a VR or 1.8t correct?
I have never built a 1.8t but know what it takesw to boost a VR.
Same goes for 350 hp. It will cost about the same. Maybe a little cheaper if you source parts individually. Correct me if I am wrong.
