DEI makes a Floor & Tunnel Shield product that could be used to insulate the part of the intake tube on a CAI that goes over the turbo and exhaust:

Designed to provide the best possible heat protection in areas where high temperatures are always present and problematic, Floor & Tunnel Shield II limits heat transfer on fire walls, transmission tunnels, floor boards, fuel cells and other areas where heat is an issue. Floor & Tunnel Shield II provides excellent light weight thermal protection, acts as a guard against track and road debris, and provides sound deadening as well.

Constructed with an embossed 10 mil aluminum face bonded to 1/8” composite glass-fiber core and backed with a high temp super strong pressure sensitive backing, Floor & Tunnel Shield II withstands up to 1750°F of direct continuous heat. The adhesive side holds past 450°F. Its improved multifaceted modern aluminum surface offers improved reflectivity and rigidity and allows for ease of installation. At only 3/16” thick, this product can be shaped and trimmed for a custom fit and is ideal for minimal clearance areas.

With a unique and patented finely woven glass-fiber backing, Floor & Tunnel Shield II is the easiest, most cost effective way to control thermal transfer while protecting expensive components and vehicle occupants from extreme heat situations and sound.

Floor & Tunnel Shield II can be used on any number of surfaces including, metal, aluminum, carbon fiber, plastic, and more. Multiple uses include: fire walls, under hoods, transmission tunnels, floor pans, fuel cells, and exterior under vehicle locations – anywhere to reflect damaging heat.

Any thoughts on using this either in combination with a heat shield or by itself to help control high intake temps?

It can't hurt, I'm sure it will help a few degrees but it probably wouldn't make a noticeable power difference. The question is whether you can live with the look or not.

Was gonna do this with some Aero-lite stuff. Apparently, it's ridiculous in just how well it works at telling heat to piss off.

Anyone know if there's a product out there that doesn't look like ass?

    Preferably black.

Only thing I've seen is silver and gold, unfortunately.

There's the gold. I could live with it on a car when you're going for the modified look but I'm really going for a clean looking engine bay. Wish there was something that worked but was black, unfortunately black doesn't do a very good job reflecting heat.

See, I was planning to go with the Forge CAI and was thinking of just using the reflective product on the heat shield or just the underside of the intake piping that goes over the heat shield. Not sure you would even be able to really see it.

There are a lot of options. Came across this removable one: http://www.hrpworld.com/index.cfm?tp...action=product

Lots of other options on the same site.

I coated the underside of the stock airbox with DEI gold tape and it dropped the intake temps 5 degrees at 7000rpms and made the airbox part of the cover cool to the touch. Was worth it for me.

I tried this today (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DEI-010417) on top of the reflecting tape and the BSH heat shield looks like it brings it down another 5 deg avg running temp and never gets as hot as it did due to heat soak.
Not the best look but I am okay with it.
