According to the article, this isn't the finished product - so the production version will look a little different. The cheesy exhaust tips kind of make this obvious (that it's not finished).

The end of the hood has to lip up the windshield a little, to give it's snout a less of an ugly look.
The steering wheel to the front bumper edge is like half the car, gross!
And, wider is better. Lower is better too...

Whether it's an R or GTI, this is obviously a very disguised "mule", and aesthetically, nothing you're seeing here is a final version of the car...
