Get the new one...
Current: 2006 Acura CSX
Gone: 2004 Jeep Liberty Renegade (375,000 kms), 2007 VW GTI (BMP), 2001 VW Jetta Wolfsburg Edition, 1994 Ford Ranger (calipso green), 1987 Jeep YJ

S197 prices are retarded. You can find deals and you can find ripoffs. It's a bit crazy that Bullitt's are still going for well into the 20's but some GT prices in the later years are too.
Seems like you should be able to get a GT for 14-18K and a Bullitt or Shelby GT for 18-20K.

Add one more vote for the new one. The interiors on them are really nice

My budget is $23k or less, I am most likely going to buy a used V8 Mustang. That one shown was sold last night, that is alright I am not in a hurry. I have always wanted a V8 powered car and I pretty sure I will not buy a V6 Mustang, unless for some reason I change my mind at the last minute. I sure hope someone kicks me in the ass to wake me up if I do decide to buy a V6.

Unless you want one for the novelty value, for the same price or less you could get the '10 GT which is an improvement over the Bullitt (styling and performance).
CarMax has a plethora of '10 GT's under $23k, and with low mileage to boot. I'd imagine you can even find better deals on autotrader.

I can't stand the '05-'09 dash, so I vote 2010 GT or hold off for a new 5.0.

My 2¢:
If Mustang, then V8
Leave the V6s for airport rentals.
There are no old Porsches - just new owners.

I agree what others have said, especially with your budget: 2010 GT. I wasn't a fan of the 05-09 interior, then the new 2010 came out and I liked it a lot more. However, I had to wait to get my hands on the 5.0. I still would get the V8 though. The V6 is nice, sounds good with an exhaust, but to me it will never sound like a V8 with a good exhaust system on it. And I've learned so much in this thread, especially that my transmission with 24,000 miles on it is made of glass
. According to TCL never own a GT-R (transmission explodes), direct injection turbo (carbon buildup), Mustang with the MT-82 or any BMW with the N54 or N55 motors, otherwise, you may be dead

I bought an '06 GT instead of a new V6. The soundtrack is better, the interior isn't enough worse to justify the added cost, the aftermarket can bring it up to modern standards easily (it's the same chassis, after all), it's cheap to build up, and I prefer the looks of the '05-09 over the '10-newer. I get damn near 30 mpg highway, and don't spend that much on fuel for commuting with. And with aftermarket exhaust, the sound is wonderful.

I only paid $16k for it, so there was a lot of room in the budget for aftermarket fun.
I love cars, but the problem is they are like schroedinger's hobby. They're always in a quantum superstate of being both awesome and a huge waste of time and money... until observation momentarily forces them into one state or another.

i would say new v6. Much better looking car IMOP. And tune the crap out of the Suspension and go have fun.

I was in the same dilemma.. well, not really.. it was either the '10 V6 (which was an iron goat) or a used GT..
I went with the used GT and never ever looked back.

How do prices from use 2010 and 2011 models compare? I know the 2010 still has the same engine as the 07 but with the track package you get much better handling. The 5.0 came out in 2011 didn't it?

I would get the older GT.
For $23K you can get a low mileage convertible, or a hardtop with mucho money left over for mods.
I had an 06 GT convertible, and I was able to replicate the times Car and Driver did(0-60 in 5.0, 1/4 in 13.8) without problem.
the performance numbers slot nicely between the new V6 and the 5.0.

The 3.7 is a nice motor(my Mazda 6 has the same motor with 272hp), and it is smooth and powerful, but the 4.6 is a much more powerful motor.

Brain says V6, heart says V8.
With a intake, tune and cat-back the V8 will sound terrific and have great responsive power. Of course a superchargers or what-not is available for quite cheap.
The older model's aftermarket will be fully fleshed out too if you want to get some basic upgrades into the car.
Hard decision. I guess it comes down to whether you want a competent sporting GT or a musclecar. Keep in mind if you are really looking for that glorious soundtrack then consider older Mustangs, they still mod up nice for much cheaper.
Id probably get the V6 and then euro-tune it so to speak, moving away from chrome wheels and towards more suspension and brake work.

This is great, TCL usually works on logic which makes choices easy......Except this one!
What are you interested in from the mustang? Sound? Driving Experience? The feel and sound of POWAAAAAR? Status? Having a new-to-the-public ride? Touching new and not multiple year-old interior materials?
Seems like answering those questions that might make the choice easier.
Me? I'd go used V8 for the sound and the driving experience and live with having to do the inevitable DIY maintenance to save on labor.

I had the same predicament but went with the V8.
Personally, I was looking at loaded convertibles. My totally loaded 06 GT vert was $15k even, and a loaded-up 2013 V6 convertible would have been close to double that.
Easy decision. I can spend some of the difference on a nicer head unit and a Kenne Bell Blower and make idiotic power, which is precisely what I'm going to do.
Everyone who gets in my car loves it, it looks new, sounds great, etc. I wasn't worried about the whole new/warranty thing because it's a Mustang, not an M3. Not as much to go wrong, pretty reliable car.

Ithe sound of the V8 Mustang. Ever since I knew the difference between V6 and V8 Mustangs, I swore to myself that I would never own a V6 Mustang over a V8. That holds true today even if it means sacrificing HP and/or MPG.
