Cool. It's something that I was interested in immediately once I saw that first craigslist ad. Now I have to stare at it every day haha

i bought some stuff on closeout at lowes called graffiti remover. it's an aerosol can, was originally $11, marked down to $2. i used it to strip off the crappy flat black paint someone sprayed the tail gate of my caddy with. it worked extremely well and did not ruin the factory paint underneath. might be something to look into.

seen this stuff in action also, works, but if left onto the paint to long it will remove everything, a co-worker did that to a shop truck

Not a huge update but I got a used tail light off eBay to replace drivers side rear that was missing the reverse clear lense. Little touch that makes it so much better.

And got some more primer off

Yeah I think most people have that reaction. It's an odd body shape, scirocco/rabbit. And a lot of people shy away from these cause no aftermarket support but it's oddities are part of its coolness. Plus we all know imported cars are pretty badass

Not only is there no aftermarket....there's not a market at all. Nothing A1 chassis will work (except front brakes and engine). Your only real chance of finding stuff is south of the border.....tons of these in Mexico. Some Fox stuff will work as well as later Dasher stuff......but it's slim pickings. I snagged a '74 Fox from the crusher...it had a 1.5L and a tiny carb...along with a surprisingly good automatic transmission......but the only successful parts searches were done on TheSamba. Try D.O.G. if they're still around as well as the Dasher/Quantum forum here. Also try the Audi 4k forum. I loved my little Fox...wish I still had it but it was too much for me to tackle at the time so she's with a different owner.

i was offered a vw fox for next to nothing, it just needed a clutch....sad i turned it down but i had no tools and lived in an apartment, this was about 5 years ago

i would agree the market is slim for parts unless it works with a mk1/a1 also
although i dont ever go looking for the b1 part lists to see whats offered

nothing at all wrong with modding the engine bay setup to use mk1/a1 parts (ie swap candidate)

i didnt notice about your first post that it was a 73 and not sold in the USA
    cool find

^so nice ill take everything in that car. Lol but yeah it'll be an uphill battle for a lot of things. At least I have everything that came with the car minus a center console but I've made a contact in Brazil that can get me the parts I will need.

i saw an 82 dasher on craigslist recently and was thinking maybe it would be fun to switch gears to a more unique car. then i sobered up and realized that im not ready to deal with that uphill battle.

i'll just enjoy this thread for now

Stripped the whole drivers side of the primer. Lots of dings, scratches, and rust where the trim was.

Is quite a bit larger. I can sit in the back quite comfortably. It's as long as a mk4 jetta. And a little bit wider than a mk1

Got the hood open finally and started messing around with the carburetor. Tuned it a little bit to make it idle a bit better but as I let it run began to hear a whistle sound so I will be getting a gasket kit and clean and retune it and see if I can get rid of the obvious vacuum leak somewhere on it.

    Obviously leaking some fuel

Call that rust "patina" and you'll win every car show you enter it in. And not only because you'll be the only B1 VW there.

i was recently enlightened to some information about your engine bay tag means
    ...

E 6 would be the paint code
    http://www.mk1vw.info/paint.php

the number 191 -6510 is a date code and the production number for the day

IDK how to read them, im sure you can find out

probally the 510th that rolled out of the assembly that day...
    19th week of....

think about it, they built millions of these things
how many days are in a year

did a test with the vinyl i picked up its a semi-vintage looking vinyl. just doing a simple recover of the panels. nothing fancy here. i really like the contrast on the inside.
