Bucketlist: Own, drive and enjoy a mk2 VR6 turbo - CKECK!

I absolutely enjoyed this beauty, but fact of the matter is that after a very long time of wrenching and investing in all sorts of projects, it's time to part with the tuning world for now and enjoy a few other things in life.

Car is parked for the season, and most likely won't see any additional mileage until spring time (other than maybe one or two short sunny sunday cruises around town)

    1988 GTI (originally 16v)
roughly 149k miles on the body, just over 51k miles on the engine (original donor tach is true to engine). Fresh VA safety inspection on 9/24. Clean VA title in hand.

    Engine Bay:
    - OBD2 vr6
    - trans with OBX limited slip differential and Spec stage 2+ clutch
    - intercooled EIP turbo kit - full setup for stage 3 (including big fuel pump, 42# injectors, ECU tune etc.) but running only 9-10psi right now (stage 2). Needs head spacer to run double the boost. Turbo kit is good for up to 600hp with supporting mods (cams, forged internals, etc.)
    - turbonetics t04b turbo
    - Greddy type-s BOV (set to vta)
    - full custom 3" turbo-back exhaust into a Borla race muffler (no cat)
    - dual air horns
    - recent tune-up
    - new battery
    - thermostat & housing replaced
    - will get fresh oil before H2O
    - Have not been on a dyno - expecting around 300 on the current setup. Maybe i'll run it at h2o if there's a portable dyno again this year.
    - Brand new passenger axle as of 9/25
    - BFI stage1 motor mounts (complete kit) in box, not installed yet.

    Interior:
    - full mk3 dash swap out of the donor
    - fully functional MFA
    - mk3 center console
    - recaro fishnets with power bases
    - 4-point roll cage
    - Schroth 3-point seat belt (driver only)
    - momo steering wheel
    - rear eurosport upper sway bar
    - Rockford Fosgate speakers (front + rear)
    - Sony head unit with bluetooth
    - All amp wiring will be sold with the car
    - power windows
    - ice cold A/C

    Exterior:
    - full mk3 plus suspension swap (5-lug, 4-wheel disc, brembo brakes)
    - mint 16" BBS RXII wheels with brand new tires
    - FK Coilovers
    - rear spoiler
    - dual-round setup with clear inner lights and clear crosshair headlights
    - Thule roof rack with fairing - true OEM pieces with VW logos and keys!

    The Bad:

    - sunroof is sealed due to broken cable. A complete spare will come with the car - just never got around to replacing.

    - cluster is acting up - typical mk3 crappy cluster issue: mileage turns correctly, temp & gas show correctly, but 2/3 times the speedo and tach needles remain parked when car is started. Happened to me with previous mk3's twice already. It's a $100 fix, i'm in no rush since car is now parked until the spring. If you decide to buy it, I will send out cluster immediately for repairs and pay for it. It's about a week turn-around on the repair.

    - no cat = no emissions for those of you who need it. Virginia does NOT need emissions after January 1st, 2013 (car will be 25 years old and "antique"). Other states even have a 20-year antique rule. Please research for yourself. If you do need emissions - you will have to invest in a 3" catalytic converter + install in order to pass. I don't need emissions, so I didn't bother.

    $6,000 firm

HD video of the car can be seen here:

You know you drive a VRT if:
    - It is impossible to sneak out of your neighborhood at 4am
    - you start to worry when your CEL turns OFF
    - you look in the rearview during a hard shift and scream "aaah that one shot a flame"

    Condition of shell; rust anywhere?

Can you get more interior pics, like the hatch area and dash?

only spot i've noticed is on floor board passenger side....looks like PO jacked up the car on the wrong spot. Got a quote from the body shop to cut out and weld in a new piece, but haven't gotten around to it. If it becomes a deal breaker, i'll get it taken care of.
Other than that, typical small spots behind rear flares on bottom like every other mk2.

I'll post more pics and a short video in the next couple days when I manage to get off work before dark.

Considering that I won't be able to afford the Mk4 I want, this will be a tax time candidate if it's still around by then. What's the fuel mileage on this thing?

No thanks, not looking for trades at this time...it's either sell it or keep it.

You never know might be on and off the market a handfull of times by then as my mood changes about actually selling it haha
Don't expect to save any gas commuting with this car, if that's what you're referring to. If you drive normally (which is like saying give a little kid a toy and expect him not to toss it halfways across the room), you'll be around 20ish...when I reset the MFA and step on it, the damn thing shows low to mid teens on the dash.

Well I do have this thread sub'ed, so if I have the cash, we'll see what mood you're in at the time

I was hoping to find a gas sipper, but given what you have under the hood, I understand what I'm getting into.

    Update:
Just found out that Virginia slightly changed their "antique" laws - for the better. As of January 1, 2013, you will NOT need emissions for this car anywhere in VA, and you don't need to have official antique plates and restrictions!
    http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/c.../emissions.asp

Also, other states have the same law - many of them even only require 20 years!
    MD - 20 yrs
    PA - 25 yrs
    NY - 25 yrs
    NJ - 25 yrs
Research the details yourself as needed.

Beautiful car man! I had a 1991 Jetta GLI and sold it about a year ago. Your car makes me want another MK2. The price is amazing! I'm keeping my eye on this one.

You know you drive a VRT if:
    - It is impossible to sneak out of your neighborhood at 4am
    - you start to worry when your CEL turns OFF
    - you look in the rearview during a hard shift and scream "aaah that one shot a flame"
