I was hoping to get a drive in at the Forks of the Credit in the next few weeks. (October 27th, 2012)

I'm not much of an organizer or anything like that, but after watching some videos from the Tail of the Dragon in the States, I was thinking we could do much the same.

If anyone is interested, PM me and we will see if we can't get some photographers, go pro camera chase cars, etc together.

    Thanks,

Hope to hear from you guys soon!

That place is heavily patrolled by the Police, Also if you haven't been down there in a few years they've recently added a series of speed bumps. Its a decent run of twisties but a big group of dubs running through like people do at the tail is just screaming for trouble. Keep the group small and you'll have a better time.

Couldnt agree more. But they do remove the speedbumps mid/late fall

Always do the Forks in a small group. Best way to enjoy it

Also, lots of other great drives / roads around there that have less traffic, people and patrols. Some great sections of Hockley Valley Rd, and many more. A few scouting trips and I am sure you could create a great route with less chance of upsetting the locals or patrols. Also a few other cafe / bar stopping spots (like the cafe complex in Belfountain) to meet around.

I always try to remember / write down the great places I have driven out there ... but ultimately forget by the time I get home. The goole / bing maps are a great place to start ... but you really need to be on the road with a paper map / GPS to find the fun spots.

Went though the Forks a few weekends ago, and while it was not busy with cars ... a "gang" of seniors were walking down the middle of the road after a blind corner ... I was driving slow (camper), but still scared the crap out of me and them ...

    Best of luck,
actually no, but I can drive slower ...

I live and work in that area. In the fall especially on weekends with the leaves changing it's pretty busy. Your better off on Hockley Rd, the forks will be at a crawl. Just my 2 cents.

I'm down but I'd like a meet closer to kitchener :p

I know some great roads closer to Port Burwell with great elevation changes and twists with posted 30kmh cautionary speeds. Great area, but again a far drive if you're not already going to the beach.

Thanks for the heads up guys.

As you can probably tell, I am relatively new to all this fun and excitment. I got my R in April and have been itching for a good drive/meet.

If you know any other roads (Besides Hockley Valley) let me know. I don't mind scouting them out in the next little bit.

I am also not an organizer or anything to that scale, I hope someone will come along and take charge and get it going, but in the absence of that keep in touch and hopefully we can do something to cap the season off before my car goes into hibernation.

Best time to go through Forks would have to be during the week, mid day. I always go through once since opp like to sit and pick their spots. If you have a gps I find it very helpful since there are really only a few side roads that they can hide on.

River road up highway 10 north of 89 is longer but not as tight and just as fun.

After a little bit of searching...mainly poaching some motorcycle forums. It appears that Hockley Valley Road is the best choice. (Not that I didn't believe you guys!) I am including a projected course we could take on a run -> http://goo.gl/maps/VLlt7

If we were to meet up in Orangeville, we could head up Hockley Valley Road to the town of Loretto, there is a bar/pub called 'The Tavern' -> http://www.lorettotavern.com/Default.aspx

Let me know if this changes anyone's minds of meeting up.

If no one joins me, I'll just run it solo.

October 27th? I'd definitely be interested. Just make sure I'm closer to the back of the pack

EDIT: Actually, what about the 20th? Oktoberfest is on the 21st apparently so it could be a VW weekend.

I work the weekend of the 20th and 21st. Which sucks because I will be missing out on Oktoberfest

    I'm in for this!
I live near the forks, and usually just cruise around the area with my brother. It'll be nice to get a bunch of vw's together and enjoy the nice roads!

    Hey dude,

I was thinking the Forks, but it doesn't seem practical anymore. So if you're up for it, come on out for the Hockley Valley Road drive.

    2 words.. Southwood road.

I make the drive at least once a month. I'll usually stop in at webers burgers on hwy 11 to stretch out after the drive up and chow then off I go. met up with a corvette club earlier on in the summer, and a few porches there and tailed em ail all the way through Southwood. It's like 36 km long with i swear over a hundred turns! Do a few passes down and back then randomly left and right the way back from hwy 11 west to the 400 on the backroads. then home.

Great day trip.. See crazy things.

Went and rode mountain bikes at Buckwallow & Porcupine Ridge in Bracebridge couple weeks back and we hit Torrance Barrens on the way home which is two minutes down the start of Southwood from Gravenhurst... VERY fun drive!

And just like Forks, there's people doing 45kph in Buicks or minivans...

Forks was only fun on the off-hours, weekdays kind of thing. And in the winter too, but then that's just nuts. With fall colours starting all you can do is crawl along the twistys behind traffic and simile at the cops. Place gets reTARTED once the leaves change...

If you're making it a longer cruise go up Hurontario to 124 North from Shelburn, then take #9 over to Creemore for some fresh tasty brews. Couple nice bits of road up there if you check the maps first, watch out some stuff is paved some isn't. Airport road is a nice cruise back, too, plenty of hills to keep it interesting and you can hit Hockley back to Orangeville.

I would be willing to run that, except for the "some stuff is paved some isn't"
I'm always up for input though! Maybe we can scout out that run for another time, and avoid said patchy areas.

google maps isn't great on details like tertiary roads that are paved versus dirt/gravel. If you take Concession 8 up to Glen Huron, you're fine, and Side Road 15/16 into Concession 6 into Riverside you'll be fine, as an extension to the Creemore drive. 124 is fun thru that area as well, Singhampton to Duntroon.

See all those squiggly roads in the box below? yeah... almost none of those are paved, but they show-up the same as paved secondary back-roads on the maps. Thanks Google.

Happy hunting please be responsible when cruising through Ontario's farmland villages

Yeah man, I'm always respectful...mainly because the OPP are everywhere. Secondly, I don't like meeting tractors on the other side of hills.

I think for this 'cruise', heading all the way up to almost Collingwood is a little far for me. In the future though, that sounds like a nice area to run.

Interestingly enough I was up there on Sunday with the Jetta and can tell you that the area is really nice right now to be in.

Hope to go back and enjoy some more driving once again this weekend and take a few pictures on Saturday after I get my car cleaned at the VW dealer in Georgetown

    This again.

I found this the first time driving a 26" straight truck
Went back a few weeks later in the Jetta and had a blast.
I make the detour to go this way anytime I'm even close to the area.
Just watch out for the train tracks. And Civics in the trees (twice)...

    Hey dude,

I am thinking meet up in Orangeville at about 1pm. West of Hwy 10, on 5th Avenue, is a Timmies, and if we get enough people...hopefully, we can slide up to the Walmart located just behind it.

If anyone has any suggestions let me know.

I drove through the Forks this weekend with the GF and there were cops everywhere.
I live in the area and I've never see the OPP out in such force on that road before...
Saw 5 cruizers includng one parked at the hairpin turn before mississauga road.

I'd be carefull if you head that way...

Yeah, a bunch of people warned me about that, so we have changed gears to the Hockley Valley Road.

    Thanks for the heads up
