Anyone try the $60 Roof Racks from Ebay?

I'm broke but want to get some racks to carry the long board or SUP.
I'm tempted to buy these from ebay.

Any other guinea pigs try it out yet?

the plastic brackets look weak even in pictures. but for the price I say give it a try as long as you're not hauling a canoe or anything with high wind resistance.

I opted for Yakima.

but cant you just put the long board inside the car?

The long board is over 9' and the SUP(Stand Up Paddleboard) is over 11'.

I sent in a request to the seller to verify that the clamps are aluminum on both sides as that plastic piece looks like it may just be a shield.

I keep forgetting to measure the dimensions of the rails, distance apart.
Anyone have this info or is it on the web.

I know---just get a tape measure out and do it.

I bought a set from Ebay for $65 including shipping
Being in Hawaii put $20+ on the tab for shipping.

I'll let you all know what my thoughts are and try to get a pic or two as well.

I received the racks on Friday and were disheartened when I saw that the parts that clamp on to the rails were 2 types of hard plastic with rubber grips. I thought they were a dud, or were some type of show piece to make your car look sporty but serve no function.

The next morning we decided to try them. They assembled easily and in spite of their not so beefy feel they clamped on really tightly. Granted I was twisting the handle so hard I cringed a little almost expecting something to break or strip. The feet do not grip around the shape of the rail perfectly but after I got all 4 snug and then tightened down it was not going anywhere.

I strapped on a 9'0" surfboard and we headed out. We went 70 mph and did not notice any weirdness. Unfortunately if something like this fails it is catastrophic so there are no signs other than your board and racks just left the vehicle.

We did this same freeway run 2 days in a row with no incident. There is wind noise around 30-40 mph but lower and higher speeds seem to avoid the noise.

My conclusion on these is that they should be limited to minimal weight and wind(surface area) exposure. I feel they could not handle multiple surfboards or any real heavy or long items, unless at slower speeds. I will continue to use then but only with the relationship of weight & surface area VS speed. Basically if the object is heavy/long/ or subject to wind forces I would not take it on the freeway or over 35-40mph.

For $60 it is a winner for us because now we can take the kid and the longboard to the beach in the same car. They are easily installed and could be used on a "as needed" basis.

I did not check the sunroof clearance.

Not bad for the price. I'd be concerned about those once they get older and the plastic starts getting brittle.
